Everton are hanging on a little at Goodison Park.

It's everyone inside their own half as Stoke continue to launch balls into the box, but guess who's back there? Wayne Rooney... he's certainly put a shift in today!

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has looked pretty lively since coming on, he runs at Michael Keane and then forces the former Burnley defender to poke the ball behind.

Jordan Pickford comes for the corner, doesn't quite get a glove on it, but a big blue boot whacks that down field.

Last few minutes at Goodison Park and it's getting scrappy, Cuco Martina fouls Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and then kicks the ball away to pick up a yellow card.

The Potters loft it forward and Peter Crouch, arms and legs flailing, wins a corner.

Rooney is enjoying this now. A man back in his natural habitat.

The goal he scored just before half-time is set to enter Everton folklore and Rooney is playing a little deeper now… trying to thread passes through to Dominic Calvert-Lewin up top.

This may be The Rooney Show and many of the headlines will be already written, but Everton need to concentrate until the three points are secure because Stoke have been more threatening in this second half with Peter Crouch and new signing Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting proving as much of a handful as he is a mouthful.

    Everton 1-0 Stoke

Stoke are going for the direct approach, and why not with Peter Crouch, Mame Biram Diouf and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting all on the pitch.

It takes a brave header from Phil Jagielka to help Everton survive.

Ronald Koeman's outfit now looking to finish this game off on the break.

Mark Hughes is an early contender for most facially animated manager of the year judging by these images from Goodison today. Has a way to go before he can usurp a certain German manager though.

Final sub for Everton. Sandro Ramirez makes way for Kevin Mirallas.

    Acrobatics from Mame Biram Diouf!

Peter Crouch's presence in the Everton box causes all kinds of confusion, and his team-mate decides to flick the ball up and attempt an overhead kick.

He gets more air than leather.

    Everton 1-0 Stoke

Sandro Ramirez is desperate to get a goal on his Premier League debut.

Moments after Jordan Pickford flew off his line to punch a searching Stoke ball clear, the striker finds himself on the edge of the area at the other end and cuts inside only to see his shot blocked.

The former Malaga man has had a couple of similar opportunities, all dealt with by the visitors.

  13. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 72 mins

    Everton 1-0 Stoke

Saido Berahino's number is up. On jogs the unmistakable frame of Peter Crouch.

Here's someone not so familiar too. Bojan goes off for new boy Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

Fit that on the back of your shirt.

  14. Postpublished at 70 mins

    Everton 1-0 Stoke

Everton are piling on the pressure. Stoke can't clear and the Toffees get another corner. It's Dominic Calvert-Lewin of all people roughing up the Potters' defenders.

Michael Keane takes a whack to the mouth and gets a bloody lip to show for it.

My dad would say Tom Davies is a throwback to good ol' days, with his scruffy hair and socks round his ankles.

The boy can play a bit, too. He's been involved in a couple of promising Everton moves since coming on.

It's another youngster who goes close for the Toffees though. Dominic Calvert-Lewin pinches the ball off Kurt Zouma and drives into the area before forcing Jack Butland to tip wide.

    Everton 1-0 Stoke

Stoke look most dangerous from set-pieces, especially with Xherdan Shaqiri delivering.

Everton give the Switzerland international another chance to do so and it's a teasing, in-swinging ball from the winger, but Jordan Pickford does superbly to gather.

That's why Everton paid top dollar for the young stopper.

    Everton 1-0 Stoke

Everton are finding a lot more space going forward this half.

The Toffees work it wide to Cuco Martina and the substitute flings in a cross towards Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but the youngster can't direct it on target.

    He's looking lively.

Stoke need something here, and they almost find it through new signing Darren Fletcher.

The Scot lines up a drive from the edge of the Everton box and fires it low, but narrowly wide of Jordan Pickford's post.

Former Manchester United players coming to the fore at Goodison.
