  1. YELLOW CARDpublished at 15 mins

    Southampton 0-0 Swansea

A needless booking for Southampton's Nathan Redmond, who impedes Swansea goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski as he tried to start a quick attack.

  2. Postpublished at 14 mins

    Southampton 0-0 Swansea

But the free-kick comes to nothing as James Ward-Prowse can only hit it into the wall. Unforgivable.

  3. Postpublished at 13 mins

    Southampton 0-0 Swansea

Free-kick to Southampton, 35 yards out. Dangerous.

  4. CLOSE!published at 10 mins

    Southampton 0-0 Swansea

A lively first 10 minutes, and now Swansea have their first chance of the match. The ball is whipped in by Wayne Routledge on the right wing and Tammy Abraham has a chance to mark his Swansea debut with a goal.

He rises and powerfully heads at goal, but the man who got 26 goals last season on loan at Championship side Bristol City can only plant his header a few inches wide of the post. A good chance and one where he probably should have hit the target.

  5. Saints entertainingpublished at 8 mins

    Southampton 0-0 Swansea

    Michael Pearlman
BBC Wales Sport at St Mary's

For a side who have gone five home matches without scoring and who managed just 17 goals all season at St Mary's last year, the Saints have started very strongly.

Manolo Gabbiadini has hit the crossbar with a header and Dusan Tadic has missed one from inside the six-yard box where it seemed easier to score, all within the opening four minutes.

Is the excitement factor returning to Southampton?

  6. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Southampton 0-0 Swansea

Ryan Bertrand is at the heart of everything at the moment. His corner was headed against the woodwork by Manolo Gabbiadini, then he set up Dusan Tadic, who shot wide from close range. Now Bertrand has an attempt of his own, 20 yards out, but shooting well wide.

    Swansea looking fragile.

  7. CLOSE!published at 4 mins

    Southampton 0-0 Swansea

He should've scored. It is all Southampton so far and Ryan Bertrand pops up on the left wing, gets to the deadball line and finds an unmarked Dusan Tadic five yards out in the middle of the goal.

But Tadic, under no pressure, can only side-foot his effort wide. Two great chances already for Southampton. That definitely should have been the first goal of the game.

  8. HITS THE WOODWORK - SOUTHAMPTONpublished at 1 min

    Southampton 0-0 Swansea

    Manolo GabbiadiniImage source, Reuters

Nearly a sensational start for the Saints. Ryan Bertrand's corner from the right wing is played towards the near post and Manolo Gabbiadini gets there first to glance a header at goal. The ball bounces off the angle of post and bar and it is a lucky let-off for the Swans.

  9. Postpublished at 1 mins

    Southampton 0-0 Swansea

Early pressure from the hosts, with Federico Fernandez having to head behind for a corner.

  10. KICK-OFFpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Southampton 0-0 Swansea

And we are ready. It is a decent crowd at St Mary's, who are in good voice. Will it be a winning Premier League start for new boss Mauricio Pellegrino?

    Let's go.

  11. How long can Britton enjoy the Swansea buzz?published at 14:59 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Leon BrittonImage source, Getty Images

New kits, new signings, pristine pitches, Leon Britton in a Swansea City team. Some things about the start of a new season never seem to change. Swansea have had more campaigns with Britton in their squad than they have had years at their Liberty Stadium home.

"When you're 20 or early in your career you have a long way ahead, but when you're at the back end of your career, you don't know when it could end," says the 34-year-old midfielder, who has played more than 500 games for the club.

"You have to make sure you enjoy it because if you speak to any ex-pro they tell you you're a long time retired and you should keep playing as long as you can.

"It will be hard to replace the buzz, so you have to savour every moment because you don't know when you're going to finish. I don't know what's going to happen this season, but I still feel fit, I still feel strong."

BBC Sport's Premier League Predictor game is back - and this season you can take on pundit Mark Lawrenson.

More than 200,000 people played last season, and you can register to take part now - it takes less than a minute to get set up.

If you played last season's version, you will have automatically been entered into the new game, along with any leagues you were involved in.

  13. Lawro's predictionspublished at 14:57 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Southampton v Swansea (15:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
    Former Liverpool defender

Both of these teams have players who obviously want to leave - Saints defender Virgil van Dijk and Swansea midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.

I think they will both get the moves they want and neither of them will play - why risk them when they are probably not fully fit?

In their absence, I am going for a Southampton win, but I still think Swansea will have a decent season under Paul Clement.

    Prediction: Southampton 2-1 Swansea.

Each week Lawro predicts the scores of the Premier League fixtures and this week he is up against BBC athletics commentators Steve Cram and Brendan Foster. Cram expects a 2-0 win for the Saints, but Foster thinks it will be goalless.

    Southampton v Swansea (15:00 BST)

    Martin Keown
Former Arsenal defender on Football Focus

A lot of top clubs want to take Virgil Van Dijk. Liverpool, of course, had their knuckles rapped. He could even end up at Manchester City, who love spending on defenders, so who knows where he is going to end up.

  15. 'Sigurdsson would be a great addition to any squad'published at 14:55 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Southampton v Swansea (15:00 BST)

    Dion Dublin
Former Leicester & Man Utd forward on Final Score

I think Gylfi Sigurdsson would be a great addition to any squad. He gets the job done, he's reliable and he's wonderful from dead-ball situations.

As a former striker I'd have loved to have played with him.

  18. 'Excitement went missing last season'published at 14:51 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    John Roder
    Match of the Day commentator

Mauricio Pellegrino finished in the top 10 and reached a cup final at Alaves in Spain last season., external

That's exactly what his predecessor Claude Puel achieved at Southampton, but excitement went missing under the French coach, with Saints scoring just 17 goals at home in the league.

Both clubs' preparations have been dominated by two players who won't feature this weekend - unsettled pair Virgil van Dijk and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

There's no doubt Sigurdsson was Swansea's best player last season, when Paul Clement turned their campaign around brilliantly to ensure survival.

With Sigurdsson seemingly on his way out and Fernando Llorente injured, much will depend on how soon teenage striker Tammy Abraham settles into his first full season of Premier League football."

  19. 'Old school atmosphere at St Mary's'published at 14:49 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Michael Pearlman
BBC Wales Sport at St Mary's

Southampton don't have a wonderful home record on the first day of the season in recent years, but there is no lack of optimism and atmosphere in Hampshire today.

Every Saints fan had an old school style 'clapper' waiting for them on their seats and it has created a good noise here.

  20. 'Survival could be regarded as a success'published at 14:49 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Paul Clement did a fine job in pulling Swansea City out of a desperate situation last season and survival could well be regarded as success for the Swans this season.

Tammy Abraham will arrive on loan from Chelsea with high expectations and a growing reputation while Roque Mesa from Las Palmas has the air of a deal conducted under the radar that might just have other clubs looking on in envy in the months to come.

The big question surrounds the talisman Gylfi Sigurdsson, the source of so much inspiration and seemingly on his way to Everton.

Can Swansea find the players to replace what the Icelander gives them? How Clement tackles this may shape their season.

    Last season: 15th

    Prediction for this season: 16th
