    Nottingham Forest 1-0 Millwall

Another wasted chance by Millwall. Forest escape yet again.

The hosts squander possession trying to play out from the back, Steve Morison finds Lee Gregory who spurns a wonderful opening under pressure from Joe Worrall.

Under pressure he may have been, but he really should have scored.

Sunderland have definitely picked up the baton in this second half and it's they who are dictating the pace of the game, the flow, the rhythm.

Lee Cattermole has another dig from the edge of the box which goes tamely to Scott Carson. It was all made by James Vaughan chasing a lost cause.

    Effort from the Black Cats.

  3. CLOSE!published at 49 mins

    Sunderland 1-1 Derby

James Vaughan snaps at a chance and drills it wide of the left post, times his half-volley well but could not find the corner.

    Sunderland looking dangerous again there.

  4. Postpublished at 20:52 British Summer Time 4 August 2017

    Nottingham Forest 1-0 Millwall

Nottingham Forest goalscorer Barrie McKay was the main home threat in the first half and he has already been involved in the second half.

The Scottish winger tees up Ben Brereton, whose powerful strike is blocked.

    Sunderland 1-1 Derby

Sunderland winger Aiden McGeady shows off his trickery down the left hand side but his cross floats easily into the hands of Scott Carson.

At the other end Jason Steele gets his hand to a harmless looking ball from Craig Forsyth and gives away a corner that Sunderland just about clear. Nervy.

  6. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 4 August 2017

    Sunderland 1-1 Derby

As the natural light fades and the megawatts of the Sunderland floodlights kick into gear, we have both teams out on the lush green turf for the second-half.

Derby's turn to kick-off. Big 45 for both these teams seeking a bright start to the season.

Who are your surprise tips for this season?

Earlier we asked for your hot tips, the dark horses for the campaign ahead. Here are a few of your suggestions...

Everton Jon: Nobody ever mentions Morecambe but I think Mansfield will win League Two.

Scott Kelly: Not many talking about Norwich.Unknown manager and Germans been recruited. Sounds like a certain German who sent a team up last year.

    HT: Sunderland 1-1 Derby

August is a jinx month for Sunderland, they haven't won a league game in the calendar month since August 2010 when they overcame Manchester City.

    Happy omens for Derby.

  11. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:39 British Summer Time 4 August 2017

    Nottingham Forest 1-0 Millwall

    McKay celebratesImage source, Rex Features

Former England and Nottingham Forest midfielder Steve Hodge is not letting home interests sway his judgement during his BBC Radio Nottingham duties.

"The best team was Millwall in that first half. Tactically they have played well. They are sending the ball long, it is old school but it works for them. They should have scored at least two of those chances."

  13. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:34 British Summer Time 4 August 2017

    Sunderland 1-1 Derby

    Sunderland celebrateImage source, Rex Features

Sunderland won't have walked off to too many applauses in the past year or so but their ovation is reward for a first half of much endeavour.

Derby have threatened too on occasion but their defence has been working hard much of the game on the back of Bradley Johnson's opener.

Parity at the break. It's been a good half.

  14. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:33 British Summer Time 4 August 2017

    Nottingham Forest 1-0 Millwall

Millwall had all the chances. About six very, very good ones.

Forest didn't create any really good opportunities. But Barrie McKay's long-range smasher has them 1-0 up. Football eh?

  15. Postpublished at 45 mins

    Sunderland 1-1 Derby

Derby had a free-kick out on the left that comes to nothing when Johnny Russell's miscued wild effort bounces well wide of the goal and out.

It's their turn to press now as we close in on half-time. One added minute. Derby appeal for the penalty which is turned down as Jacob Butterfield was clattered...

  16. goal

GOAL Sunderland 1-1 Derbypublished at 42 mins

    Lewis Grabban (penalty)

    Lewis GrabbanImage source, Rex Features

Parity is restored by Lewis Grabban and it is a goal they deserve for their endeavour as we close in on half-time.

It was Sunderland's most sustained spell of pressure in the Derby half of the game so far and George Honeyman was hugely influential in that with some teasing deliveries.

Jacob Butterfield handled in the box leaving Oliver Langford with no option, and Grabban was cool from the spot. Game on.

  17. goal

GOAL Nottingham Forest 1-0 Millwallpublished at 20:26 British Summer Time 4 August 2017

    Barrie McKay

Barrie McKay celebratesImage source, Rex Features

Well that was inevitable wasn't it. Millwall have missed a buckletload of chances, the latest of which saw Lee Gregory completely mis-hit his shot when clean through.

Seconds later Barrie McKay runs towards goal and then smashes in a cracker. A stunning long-range hit. Some way to mark your debut.

  18. CLOSE!published at 39 mins

    Sunderland 0-1 Derby

Andre Wisdom was almost burned off down the left side by Lee Cattermole and concedes a free-kick to the midfielder. Sprint training to come for you mate.

The following wicked delivery from that free-kick almost has Sunderland in but Lewis Grabban's shot from the edge of the box flew over the top.

Then at the other end Johnny Russell broke into the box but this time the Rams livewire was denied.

  19. Postpublished at 36 mins

    Sunderland 0-1 Derby

Sunderland's bad luck in the box continues as James Vaughan takes a pass from his team-mate Lee Cattermole and gets a shot away which smacks the legs of Lewis Grabban and bobbles out for a goal kick.

More positive signs from the hosts but at the moment Derby are comfortable at the back. Didier Ndong's 'shot' moments later doesn't really warrant this mention, but I'll throw it in anyway.

  20. Postpublished at 33 mins

    Sunderland 0-1 Derby

Excellent chasing by Lewis Grabban wins his side a corner. No lack of effort from Sunderland as Derby ambled back. Points to prove from players in their squad.

However, Derby are extremely well drilled, especially so far from set pieces and have suffocated the space whenever the Black Cats are in their 'red-zone' to borrow a bit of NFL speak.
