A glorious, glorious goal by Burton.

Lloyd Dyer bursts into the box and plays the ball to Lucas Akins.

A sumptuous backheel finds Dyer, and he skips through and finds the back of the net.

It's the perfect second half for Burton so far.

  2. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 65 mins

Birmingham make the first change of the night. Issac Vassell comes on up front for Lukas Jutkiewicz.

A bit more pace up top for the Blues now.

  3. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 63 mins

    Burton 1-1 Birmingham

    Clayton Donaldson is so unlucky.

Impressive acrobatics from the big forward as he runs backwards and shoots over his head towards goal.

It hits the outside of the post and Burton survive.

    Burton 1-1 Birmingham

Clayton Donaldson is posing no end of problems when he goes out wide and sends over a teasing cross after another jinky run.

Lukas Jutkiewicz cannot get a proper contact under pressure from the home defence and his header is easy for keeper Stephen Bywater.

  5. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 58 mins

    Burton 1-1 Birmingham

That looked like a very strong shout for a penalty for the hosts.

Clayton Donaldson upends his man in the box with a wild swing and is very lucky to get away with it.

Luke Murphy went flying. Nigel Clough will be fuming.

  6. Postpublished at 57 mins

    Burton 1-1 Birmingham

A stunning crossfield ball into the box from left to right by Jackson Irvine could so easily have led to a second goal for Burton.

Tom Naylor cannot keep his first-time effort down.

    Burton are dominating now.

  7. Postpublished at 54 mins

    Burton 1-1 Birmingham

Birmingham keeper David Stockdale makes a total hash of the set-piece at the near post.

But for some reason he's awarded a free-kick. No idea why.

  8. Postpublished at 53 mins

    Burton 1-1 Birmingham

The goal was Burton's third shot on target tonight. That's one more than they have managed in the Championship all season before tonight.

There's still about 40 minutes left too. And they have a corner.

GOAL: Burton 1-1 Birminghampublished at 50 mins

    Marvin Sordell

That's a fabulous strike by Marvin Sordell.

He drags the ball back with his right foot and smashes it across goal and into the far corner from the edge of the box.

Delighful and much needed. Just Burton's second league goal in four games this season.

  10. Postpublished at 49 mins

    Burton 0-1 Birmingham

Matty Palmer has another strike on goal. This time it's a much cleaner strike but David Stockdale does well to get down low to his left.

A real sense of urgency about the home side's play now.

  11. Postpublished at 47 mins

    Burton 0-1 Birmingham

A promising start by the hosts ends with Matty Palmer scuffing a shot towards goal. It's very easy for Birmingham keeper David Stockdale though.

  14. Can Clough's Burton get back on track?published at 20:42 British Summer Time 18 August 2017

    HT: Burton 0-1 Birmingham

We established earlier that Nigel Clough is not one for gimmicks, playing a very straight bat to tabloid talk of Usain Bolt coming to the club on trial.

So for no other reason than we really like it, here's a picture of the legend that is his dad Brian Clough mixing with a sporting superstar of his own era.

Formula 1 world champion Nigel Mansell and Nottingham Forest shared sponsors back in the day, providing us with this gem...

While we pause for breath at the Pirelli Stadium, now seems a good chance to point you in the direction of an EFL feast on BBC Sport tomorrow.

We'll be bringing you live text coverage of 11 Championship games, starting with the South Yorkshire derby between Sheffield United and Barnsley at 12:15 BST and ending with a tasty looking fixture between Sunderland and Leeds United at 17:30 BST.

And in between? Winless Aston Villa will hope to escape the bottom three, while the top two Wolves and Cardiff will be battling to continue their 100% starts.

    Be there or be square.

  16. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:33 British Summer Time 18 August 2017

    Burton 0-1 Birmingham

A minute of injury time comes to an end. Burton will feel hard done by to be behind. But Birmingham created a couple of good openings in the end and the goal was a perfect example of that.

Jacques Maghoma's tap-in is the difference between the sides.

  17. Postpublished at 44 mins

    Burton 0-1 Birmingham

Not far off 30 stone of footballers collide as Clayton Donaldson and Kyle McFadzean tussle. The Birmingham striker takes a knock and wins a free-kick but no harm done.

Just a minute left, plus injury time.

  18. Postpublished at 42 mins

    Burton 0-1 Birmingham

Better from Burton. Jackson Irvine is again involved. He rarely wastes possession and a decent move started by the Australian leads to some panicky defending before Birmingham thump the ball clear.

  19. Postpublished at 40 mins

    Burton 0-1 Birmingham

Matthew Lund is not a million miles away from fluking an equaliser for Burton with a curling cross that drifts a yard or two over the bar.

David Stockdale probably had it covered anyway.

  20. Postpublished at 38 mins

    Burton 0-1 Birmingham

    Birmingham have a corner.

It's unconvincingly cleared and comes to nothing. The away side have been well on top in the last few minutes.
