Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy: "It was a thoroughly professional performance against a very good side. Everyone put in a shift and I could praise everybody. Bart [Bialkowski] made the saves when needed and it was just a whole team performance.

"Last season we didn't look like scoring at all and we do this year. It's lovely for the lads, for me and the supporters to see goals go in. They are a threat and it's great to see."

  14. Rowett impressed by 'brilliant' Nugentpublished at 18:26 British Summer Time 19 August 2017

FT: Bolton 1 -2 Derby County

    Gary RowettImage source, Rex Features

Derby County manager Gary Rowett: "The first 45 minutes were probably the best 45 minutes of football we have had since we came back to the club. Another goal would have put the gloss on it. The fact we didn't made the game edgy in the second half. We started the second half a bit sloppily and made a few poor decisions.

"Nugent is a brilliant all-round player for us in the Championship. Not only can he score goals but his work-rate is tireless. His finishes were great."

    Steve BruceImage source, PA

Conor Hourihane grabbed a hat-trick as Aston Villa beat Norwich City 4-2 to ease the pressure on boss Steve Bruce. Villa's first Championship victory of the season came at the fourth attempt.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce told BBC WM: “It's ridiculous, after a week, that people are starting to question you. Yes, we've had a difficult week, results-wise. But we were close to blowing Hull away in the first game and we were very close to blowing these away. It just shows you how quickly this club can lurch in to a crisis, after a week.

“So I'm aware of it. The nonsense that's been going around is nonsense. I've got the nucleus of a decent team. I know that. We're young. Thankfully, under pressure, they've performed really, really well. We could have scored another four, if the truth be known."
