There's a very uneasy atmosphere at the Emirates, where a few scuffles have broken out in the away end between Cologne supporters and stewards. The gates finally opened at 19:50 BST, with thousands of ticketless Cologne fans outside the stadium.

It does appear the game will now go ahead but ticketless fans will have to be managed outside the ground and riot police have just entered the Emirates and are surrounding the away fans.

    Atalanta 3-0 Everton

Ronald Koeman is being honest here, blaming himself for the side's lack of preparation.

"We knew since July that the start of the season was tough," he says. "But that is not the problem."

He also says that he showed his team eight clips of Alejandro Gomez cutting inside on to his right foot and shooting - but he was still allowed to for the second goal!

Andreas Cornelius is in on goal for Atalanta but his first-time shot is tame, before Nikola Vlasic does well to wriggle into space inside the area and maybe should have gone down in fact.

    Very good Tom, very good.

Everton win a corner which Phil Jagielka heads just wide - they don't even deserve a consolation goal to be honest.

The Anglo-Italian Cup! That takes us back!

This is the first time that Atalanta have played English opposition in a, er, 'proper' match.

Re 17.11. I remember seeing Leicester beating Atalanta 6-0 at Filbert St in the Anglo Italian in the 71-72 season. Happy days.

    Atalanta 3-0 Everton

I know a few Everton fans and this summer was possibly the most optimistic they had been about a season for a long, long time.

It's not started too well. It's the hope that kills you isn't it? Every time.

They have been very bad indeed tonight.
