The other game in Everton's group is still goalless between Apollon Limassol and Lyon in Cyprus.

It is all too easy for AC Milan, who lead Austria Vienna 3-0 at the interval. Andre Silva scoring twice for the Serie A side.

Bundesliga side Hoffenheim, who were knocked out of the Champions League play-off round by Liverpool, are 1-1 against Braga, while Villarreal lead Astana 1-0.

    Bryan Cristante

This is becoming seriously bad news for Ronald Koeman! Everton are caught out by the most routine of long balls forwards, it's three on three and Andrea Petagna is able to find Bryan Cristante driving through the middle and he easily finds the bottom corner.

They are wiping the floor with the Toffees!

    Atalanta 2-0 Everton

It's worth remembering that this game is being played 120 miles away from Atalanta's usual home. You wouldn't know it. It's a cauldron.

    Alejandro Gomez

    Brilliant goal!

Wow, that is superb and it leaves Everton in the sort of mess they deserve to be in. Andrea Petagna switches play from right to left, Atalanta skipper Alejandro Gomez cuts inside a lazy challenge from Nikola Vlasic but there still doesn't appear to be much danger.

However, he curls and whips a devilish strike from maybe 22 yards over Maarten Stekelenburg and into the top corner! Superb.

The hosts have had 10 shots on goal. Everton have been really poor.

    Atalanta 1-0 Everton

Five of Everton's starting XI tonight weren't even born when Atalanta had scored their previous goal in Europe (December 1990).

They won't have long to wait for the next one if this performance so far is anything to go by...

  10. Postpublished at 38 mins

    Atalanta 1-0 Everton

Alejandro Gomez now has a low shot saved - Everton are as ragged as Atalanta are fluid. When your centre-back keeps popping up in the opposition area you must be playing some sort of total football...

  11. CLOSE!published at 36 mins

    Atalanta 1-0 Everton

And Atalanta are in again, centre-back Andrea Masiello is through on goal for a second big chance from open play! Maarten Stekelenburg makes another crucial save.

Everton could be three, even four down.

  13. CLOSE!published at 33 mins

    Atalanta 1-0 Everton

And Atalanta almost extend their lead again! Hans Hateboer flashes a low cross/shot across the face of goal and Michael Keane gets a telling touch to divert it to safety.

Everton have had a very ropey few minutes. Ronald Koeman will be hoping to get to half-time just one down.

    Atalanta 1-0 Everton

Everton on the ropes here. Alejandro Gomez teases a wonderful low cross into the middle and it somehow runs free, before Rafael Toloi's follow-up whistles into the chest of an Everton defender.

Richard Cohen: This Everton team is so dull. We've spent so much money, but no verve, no pace, no creativity. Not even any movement

    Atalanta 1-0 Everton

You can't really say that Atalanta don't deserve that lead. Everton look to be lacking up front so far this season and again tonight nothing is sticking up top.

  17. goal

GOAL - Atalanta 1-0 Evertonpublished at 18:27 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Andrea Masiello (27 mins)

Not to be denied! The defender was kept out moments earlier but from the corner Andrea Masiello is in the right place to sweep home from close range!

The corner hit Phil Jagielka on his hip and ran perfectly into the number five's path.

How has that stayed out?! Great save from Maarten Stekelenburg! Andrea Petagna is played in, he is shut out but Andrea Masiello's follow-up is brilliantly pushed away!

Wayne Rooney is basically coming down to the back three to get the ball for Everton and start play up again. A roaming brief.

    Atalanta 0-0 Everton

Flat, testing corner in from Atalanta skipper Alejandro Gomez which is helped on at the near post and almost falls invitingly for Bryan Cristante in the six-yard box. Phil Jagielka does well to clear.
