Yohan Cabaye is not seeing much ball, just 19 touches, a low for all the outfield players on the pitch.

His ball up the line for Andros Townsend is too heavy. Townsend is quick but he's not a racehorse.

  2. Ouch!published at 46 mins

    Man City 1-0 Crystal Palace

Maybe Manchester City have had a rocket from Pep Guardiola because they are out of the traps fast.

Leroy Sane finds Raheem Sterling in the box and it takes a brave Scott Dann block to deflect the ball wide.

That was like something out of Braveheart from Dann.

  3. Hennessey heckled... before City find a way throughpublished at 16:04 British Summer Time 23 September 2017

Chants of "Leroy, Leroy, Leroy" echoed around the Etihad Stadium after Leroy Sane finally made the breakthrough for Manchester City just before the break, but there has not been much else for the home fans to shout about - and for all City's possession (69%) and pressure, you would hardly say that goal had been coming.

When the opposition keeper is being heckled for taking too long over goal-kicks, which was the treatment Wayne Hennessey was getting for most of the first half, you know things are not going to plan for Pep Guardiola's side.

Hennessey had not been seriously tested before Sane beat him with what was only City's third shot on target - and while Palace are yet to hit the target at all (that Ruben Loftus-Cheek shot against the post does not count) this has not been anything like the one-sided match that many people predicted.

    And we are back underway.

If you are just joining us, Pep Guardiola made eight changes from the midweek League Cup win. City have lost Benjamin Mendy though to injury so Danilo is on.

Leroy Sane now has five goals from just six shots on target in all competitions for Man City this season.

Rarely will a finish from six yards contain more class that his goal here. His first touch was sublime.

Manchester City have had 69% of possession and 12 shots at goal. But it's a lot closer than that. Like this picture, it's competitive.

The fact Christian Benteke has had 27 touches, among the most in Palace's side, perhaps shows they are in the game. How often does an away striker barely see the ball at this ground?

His side may be a goal to the good but on watching Christian Benteke race through on goal at the end of that first half Pep Guardiola turned around and booted his seat.

He was not a bit happy!

  10. 'City are so creative'published at 15:49 British Summer Time 23 September 2017

Manchester City are so creative and they have so many good players in the team who are equally capable of scoring.

What do Crystal Palace do now? Do they go out and attack and try and get back into the game? That might not work either.

  11. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 23 September 2017

    Man City 1-0 Crystal Palace

The final action of the half sees Christian Benteke get in behind Manchester City but his touch is a fraction heavy, allowing Ederson to race out and dive at his feat to claim the ball.

That kind of sums Palace up. They have been decent on the counter and arguably deserve more.

No prizes in this game for close calls though, they were unlocked by City's quality.

  12. goal

GOAL - Man City 1-0 Crystal Palacepublished at 44 mins

    Leroy Sane

    What a wonderfully taken goal.

Crystal Palace will be sick, they were a minute or so away from getting to the break level.

But wizadry from David Silva unlocks them. Leroy Sane has the ball wide left, finds Silva and his clipped return is pulled out of the air brilliantly by Sane. The touch takes the ball over the head of Scott Dann and from inside the six-yard box, Sane slides the ball under the keeper.

A goal rich in quality. Both Sane and Silva show what they are all about.

  13. Frustration for Man City as Palace hold firmpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 23 September 2017

So far, so good for Crystal Palace, who look well-drilled and determined - less so for Manchester City, who are playing too many loose passes when they do find space in the Eagles half. Kevin de Bruyne and Raheem Sterling have both been guilty of that in the last few minutes.

The home fans are trying to rouse their side and are loudly urging them forward, but all too often those shouts are ending in howls of frustration as the ball finds a black Palace shirt, not a blue City one.

  14. Ball boy chat!published at 40 mins

    Man City 0-0 Crystal Palace

Pep Guardiola is chatting to one of the ball boys. He has his arm around him and is whispering in his ear. Is he asking for the ball to be thrown back quicker? Talk about marginal gains.

Scott Dann goes to ground to cut out a Kevin De Bruyne cut-back in the area.

I must admit, I was a ball boy back in the day. Non-league level, I never had the ability to cut it at the top. Some fans did used to get on my back to tell me to throw the ball back slowly if our side were winning.

The general rule was over-arm throw if you're losing, under-arm roll if you're ahead.

Good defending from Danilo as he slides in in the area, deflects the ball off Timothy Fosu-Mensah and wins a goal kick.

Palace are getting space on the break. When they hit the City half often their attacking options have space to run into.

Some 35 minutes in you can clearly see how the away side are prepared to retreat without the ball. Their average positions are deep, while City (left) are pushed up.

In fairness to Palace they are coping well and don't look like they are set to buckle at any given moment.

A cross from David Silva is headed over under pressure from Sergio Aguero. Palace will take that all day and pep Guardiola looks a touch frustrated, his head is in his hands. Come on Pep, it's a bit early for that.

  17. CLOSE!published at 34 mins

    Man City 0-0 Crystal Palace

What a chance for Sergio Aguero, what a chance indeed. You would have bet your house on him.

Super work from Leroy Sane and David Silva to work crossing space down the left. The cut back from Sane is crisp and behind defenders allowing Aguero to hold his run and have space some 10 yards out. It perhaps comes at him a bit quick and he can't get his feet in position, leading to a confused scoop over the bar.

Manchester City are unbeaten in 13 Premier League games, winning 10 of them.

Pep Guardiola's side are making possession count this season, averaging around 69% in a game before today, that's the highest mark in the league.

Only City (3299), Tottenham (3097) and Arsenal (3005) have passed 3000 completed passes in the league prior to Saturday's games.

Palace are a respectable 11th in the table for completed passes on 2028.

Benjamin Mendy will have to leave the field. The left-back picked up a yellow card for a foul on Andros Townsend a few minutes ago and hurt himself in the challenge. He limps off and Danilo gets the nod.
