For all the possession from the home side it's again Crystal Palace going close and again it's Ruben Loftus-Cheek. A ricochet falls his way eight yards out and his snap shot is pulled across goal. It's a waste, he should be hitting the target at the very least from there.

We have a brief pause as Benjamin Mendy gets treatment. So far his side are dominating possession and territory but the best effort we've seen has come from the visitors, striking the post through Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The sun was out at the Etihad Stadium earlier but the dark Mancunian skies currently look as menacing as the Manchester City attack has been this season. A downpour is going to come any minute, I think.

On the pitch, City are looking more and more dangerous, but it has not started raining goals yet either. Palace are well organised at the back, and are breaking forward well too, so it is far from one-way traffic.

Fernandinho is flagged offside and he will be a little relieved as that is a poor miss. A Manchester City corner is volleyed at goal by Nicolas Otamendi, it's blocked and the loose ball is prodded straight at the keeper by Fernandinho.

Christian Benteke is getting a bit of joy today. He wins a header to flick on for Jeffrey Schlupp but he can't beat defenders in the foot race and City will bring the ball away.

Benteke again on the ball, goes down in the middle of the pitch but gets no free-kick as Palace try to relieve pressure.

City get on with it, Kevin De Bruyne weaving, like a slalom skier, before finding Leroy Sane who pulls his shot like a darts player with tired arms.

Roy Hodgson is off his chair and is quite clearly gesturing 'get up', urging his side not to sit deep and invite pressure from the Premier League's most potent side.

Crystal Palace threaten briefly through Christian Benteke as he tries to burst into the box, banging defenders out of the way. He sets up Andros Townsend who has a shot blocked.

Manchester City build their own attack. Kevin De Bruyne swings in a cross... header by Mamadou Sakho... hits the post. He glanced that across his own goal and almost put through his own net.

Manchester City tend to dominate this fixture and at this stadium, things tend to get very ugly for Crystal Palace.

In five visits they are 16-1 down on aggregate. So they concede over three goals on average here and score 0.2.

They have not beaten City away from home since 1990. With all this considered, as well as the fact they can't score a goal in the league, hats off to their fans who travel here with even a crumb of hope.

Raheem Sterling advances and shapes to shoot but can't quite get the ball under his spell. City work the ball left and win a corner. David Silva on it... flicked on by John Stones and booted away again.

The start we expected. Sky blue shirts faced with a wall of black shirts...

Some neat stuff early on and City flow up the left flank, allowing Leroy Sane to cross into the box... headed away. That build-up play had some pace and poise about it. Ominous...

If Sergio Aguero does the biz and breaks the Manchester City scoring record today then I am sad to say that City fans will not be able to rush out to buy a t-shirt saying 'I was there'.

According to staff I spoke to in the club's megastore, they will be doing one when he breaks the record, but it will probably take a week or so to hit the shelves.

Any Aguero merchandise is pretty thin on the ground in-store from what I could see - just one t-shirt, and not a mention of THAT title-winning goal against QPR in sight.

Worry not, though, if Aguero bags a hat-trick and you have £50 to spare then you can buy yourself an Aguero men's grooming kit to mark the occasion.

Some flags flutter at one end of the goal as the man on the microphone runs through the Manchester City team. It's met with a constant applause rather than shouts for individuals.

Pep Guardiola is already sat in his seat, looking pensive. Oh hang on, one man gets a roar... "Number 10 Sergio Aguerrooo".
