    Southampton 0-1 Manchester United

Manchester United deservedly lead at the break and the only surprise is that it is only one goal.

The goal came after 20 minutes, with Romelu Lukaku finishing a rebound after Saints goalkeeper Fraser Forster had parried his earlier header following Ashley Young's cross from the left.

Comfortable for United, Southampton must do a lot, lot better.

Corner to Southampton. A late first-half equaliser coming?

    Southampton 0-1 Manchester United

Southampton sliced open, and again it comes down the left wing.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan releases Romelu Lukaku and his low cross is slashed behind by Wesley Hoedt. It was an important interception from the Dutchman as Marcus Rashford was in the middle and waiting to finish.

Fellaini is back on and seems to be OK. Well, he is OK to get the ball and knock a pass away, but still not moving too freely.

Marouane Fellaini is screaming and rolling around in pain. It comes after Shane Long stands on his Achilles. The United man needs treatment, Long gets a yellow card and Fellaini is hobbling. One to monitor.

Sir Fabian Pavez: Nemanja Matic is a gem of a player in Midfield. He's making Fellaini look good.

Not mentioned Matic much, but it has been a normal Matic performance so far. Winning the ball, not giving it away, buzzing into tackles. What a player and what a signing for United.

BBC Match of the Day commentator at St Mary's

I've not seen a Manchester United team play with such fluidity and confidence since the Sir Alex Ferguson days.

United look so, so dangerous every time they attack. They are having so much success down the left wing with Marcus Rashford and Henrik Mkhitaryan impressing. The latter is then shoulder-charged in the penalty area by Mario Lemina, who is lucky to not concede a penalty.

Referee Craig Pawson is not interested and we play on.

Half an hour in and Southampton have offered little as an attacking force. I've done a few Saints games this season and that is not the first time I've said that. Any way back into this one for the hosts?

Bashir Musa Liman: Lukaka: Beast. Brutal. Brilliant. Best. Beautiful.

Shane O'Neill: Great to have you back, Ashley Young. Showing your real quality now. Good defender & a real threat going forward.

At the moment, Southampton have started well enough. They are passing well and controlling possession but there has not been a single threat on David de Gea's goal.

    That must be a concern.

So, so close to a second goal for the visitors. Marcus Rashford has a free-kick 25 yards out, runs at it straight on, just like Cristiano Ronaldo, the free-kick is over the wall and only inches past the post. Great effort.

Mwalimu Pedro: Credit to Ashley Young. His crossing from the days of Sir Alex has returned.

It was a lovely ball in from the United left-back. The sort of cross strikers scream out for.

The second meaningful contribution Ashley Young has had in the game. When the ball is put in the middle, he has Romelu Lukaku to aim for and Marouane Fellaini.

It's just too much power for Southampton to deal with.

Lukaku is a goalscorer. He just totally comes alive and is a beast in that area. Did you think there would be any other outcome? I didn't.

GOAL - Southampton 0-1 Manchester Unitedpublished at 20 mins

    Romelu Lukaku (Manchester United)

It has taken Manchester United 20 minutes and they have the lead. It is a lovely goal as well. Ashley Young jinks and turns to create some space, his cross from the left finds the head of Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgium international gets above Wesley Hoedt in the box and powerfully heads at goal from six yards out, Fraser Forster parries the first attempt but the rebound falls straight back to Lukaku who scores. United lead.
