  2. CLOSE!published at 51 mins

    Liverpool 2-0 Southampton

This is much better from Southampton since the break and Sofiane Boufal gets Liverpool running towards their own goal. They retreat and retreat until he is 12 yards out. He cuts onto his right peg and only a fine Dejan Lovren block denies him.

  3. Postpublished at 49 mins

    Liverpool 2-0 Southampton

Simon Mignolet has to be quick off his line as Shane Long chases a Steven Davis ball through the back four. He boots clear...

  4. Postpublished at 48 mins

    Liverpool 2-0 Southampton

Mohamed Salah tees up Sadio Mane who has a swing from 20 yards... blocked. Southampton clear and Shane Long wins a free-kick on the halfway line. The away side will have to really open up if they are to have any hope here.

They take a throw in which lands in the box. Dusan Tadic sets Sofiane Boufal and he slams one over the bar.

This gentleman was among the goals when Liverpool recorded their biggest ever Premier League win, thrashing Southampton 7-1 at Anfield in 1999.

Carragher celebrated wildly after scoring his second goal in three seasons as a pro. Little did he know that in the following 14 seasons he'd manage just three more in all competitions.

  6. KICK-OFFpublished at 46 mins

    Liverpool 2-0 Southampton

Liverpool will attack the Kop in this second period. Can they turn on the charm for their fans in the second period and rack up a few goals? Remember they didn't score once in four meetings with Southampton last season.

Southampton have only scored twice in a game on two occasions this season...

As you will likely know, Jurgen Klopp took himself into hospital this week after feeling unwell on Wednesday but he left and was seen taking training the next day.

"I feel really good," he said. "I am 50 now - maybe I need to get used to it but I've been twice already in a British hospital.

"The NHS is not as bad as you think. I am not ill, which is kind of good news.

"You should not experience as a person in public to go to a hospital. I had people shouting 'Klopp is in hospital, did you see him?"

No doubt Jurgen will be feeling a lot better now.

  9. Some signingpublished at 15:55 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2017

    Liverpool 2-0 Southampton

Mohamed Salah is looking like a bargain at around £34m.

As our friends at Opta tell us, no one in the Premier League is hitting the net more.

Salah is one of our nominees for BBC African Footballer of the Year. For more on that and the chance to vote, click here.

  10. The half-time snap shot...published at 15:51 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2017

    Liverpool 2-0 Southampton

Philippe Coutinho has touched the ball 45 times for Liverpool, only Jordan Henderson (50) has more. Surely you can't let Coutinho see that much ball and expect to hold out. His threaded pass for Liverpool's second perhaps evidence of that.

Liverpool look comfortable. Southampton with a lot to do in the second-half. Just one shot in the first half for them.

  12. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:47 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2017

    Liverpool 2-0 Southampton

    Mohamed Salah the difference.

His first a gorgeous curler, the second a simple finish from a fine Philippe Coutinho pass.

Liverpool heading for three league wins in a row.

  13. Postpublished at 45 mins

    Liverpool 2-0 Southampton

We will have a couple of added minutes. This has not been scintilating from Liverpool but it's been a job well done to say the least. They play a bit of keep ball despite one fan screaming "get it in the box". Philippe Coutinho looks for Roberto Firmino but Virgil van Dijk chases into his box to clear.

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 44 mins

    Liverpool 2-0 Southampton

Dejan Lovren is in the book for a foul and from the consequent free-kick Ryan Bertrand almost gets Southampton back into it. His left-foot curler from a full 35 yards sees Simon Mignolet dive as the ball sails narrowly wide of the top corner.

  15. goal

GOAL: Liverpool 2-0 Southamptonpublished at 41 mins

    Mohamed Salah

Philippe Coutinho has been allowed too much ball in that pocket 35 yards out when Southampton drop off and he makes the away side pay.

His pass through the defence is with the outside of the boot and Mohamed Salah's run is instinctive. He was the wrong side of the defender who couldn't see him make that early dart. It leaves him in the area and as Fraser Forster slides out at his feet Salah prods the ball past him.

  16. Postpublished at 39 mins

    Liverpool 1-0 Southampton

A brief shake of the head by Jurgen Klopp on the touchline as play briefly stops. Maybe he is not too keen on what he has seen since the goal.

Sadio Mane gets on the ball down the left but Cedric Soares out-hustles him well to clear... for now... Liverpool come again...

  17. Postpublished at 38 mins

    Liverpool 1-0 Southampton

The away side have been much better since the goal. Cedric Soares shows lovely feat on the dead ball line to turn cleverly and cross. It's right on top of Simon Mignolet which is never a good thing for Liverpool fans and the keeper does well to punch clear under pressure from Sofiane Boufal.

Graham Green: What was Tadic thinking trying to weave through the Liverpool attackers so close to his own goal? It’s hard enough to win at Anfield without brain freezes like that.

Hassan Anfield: By far Mo Salah is the best signing of the decade.

  19. Postpublished at 35 mins

    Liverpool 1-0 Southampton

Ryan Bertrand gets forward on the overlap as Southampton respond with a little fight but Trent Alexander-Arnold matches him for pace and wins the battle. Goal kick.
