Great opportunity, especially for someone like Austin. That's a lack of technique and also a lack of confidence, he doesn't get his body high enough to get over the ball.

The width of the whitewash was a major talking point in the Ashes earlier, but the Huddersfield ground staff are making sure they have the correct dimensions for today’s game against Manchester City. Very dedicated, I have to say. Less than three hours to go before kick-off and they are re-painting all the white lines after a couple of showers.

Free-kick to Southampton as Gylfi Sigurdsson fouls Steven Davis.

First real opportunity for either side.

James Ward-Prowse takes it and curls in a teasing effort that bounces in the Everton box and deflects off Phil Jagielka, forcing Jordan Pickford to make the save.

  10. 'Six-pointer?'published at 13:17 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2017

    Southampton v Everton (13:30 GMT)

    Arlo White
    BBC commentator

Three days on from what David Unsworth called an 'unacceptable' capitulation against Atalanta, and with no wins in their last 14 away league games, Everton face a Saints side with just one home victory this season.

Everton have lost four of six games in all competitions since Ronald Koeman was fired, conceding 16 goals. It's ironic that the manager they covet, Marco Silva, is in charge of the only side they've beaten.

Mauricio Pellegrino's Saints have scored just four goals from open play in 12 league games and are at a crucial crossroads. They face Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United before the new year.

You can never rule out a classic, but even at this stage of the season there is an air of concern and desperation around both clubs. Is it too early to call it a six-pointer?

Mike, Winchester: Paceless front target man and wingers from Saints. Still think we have enough to beat a dreadful Everton side but it doesn't change the fact that Pellegrino must go.

Southampton could end the day in the top half with victory this afternoon...

If you equip your players well enough they'll come out fighting on the pitch. If you're giving the right information in training, they should be coming out like lions and not hiding behind the manager.

Koeman, Bilic, Pulis... Is it too easy for players to hide behind the manager when things start to go wrong?

    Garry Monk
    Middlesbrough manager on MOTD2 Extra

Chappers has asked Garry Monk about whether he has ever been asked about his footballing philosophy when interviewing for a manager’s job…

“Swansea was different because I was part of the past there, but at Leeds and Middlesbrough the be all and end all is winning. That’s what we are here to do. You do talk about the project, but ultimately they want to hear what will make you win, philosophies don’t really matter. You should know what you’re getting when you bring in a manager.”

Rian Hoskins: Everton have handled the managerial situation poorly in that it is clear they do not want Unsworth long term yet haven't made much progress in terms of finding someone and they need to find someone soon for they are too defensively open and naive currently

Paul: I wish the media would stop trying to push turgid English managers onto Everton

Beppa: Managers from the Championship or lower wouldn’t attract players to come and play for them,no matter how good they are as a coach. Even David Moyes found that out when he came in at a big club like Manchester United, players won’t join a club for a no-name manager

  20. 'Unsworth part of the problem'published at 12:38 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2017

    Martin Keown
Former Arsenal defender on MOTD2 Extra

Obviously he hasn't got the experience for that type of job but we've got to realise he's part of the problem. It was so sloppy on Thursday night, whatever information he's giving them it's not getting through and he's now part of the issue.
