The snow is falling at Turf Moor, and it's all feeling a little festive. To get fans in the mood, Burnley played Stop The Cavalry over the public address system before kick-off. What's your favourite Christmas song? Mine is Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses. Oh, and that spoof of Paul McCartney's Wonderful Christmastime that Peter Serafinowicz did on his BBC sketch show a few years ago. Now that was good.

One thing that is noticeable about Burnley these days is that they have developed a more attractive style than they have in the past. Johann Gudmundsson plays a lovely first-time ball round the corner for Scott Arfield, but the move doesn't quite come off.

  3. GREAT SAVE!published at 23 mins

    Burnley 0-0 Watford

Chance at the other end. Abdoluaye Doucoure hits a snap shot after Ward half-clears a throw-in. Nick Pope saves, and Phil Bardsley is first to the lose ball before any Watford man can follow in.

No goals so far, but an enjoyable match. I think even Richard Osman would be having fun if he was here. As long as he was wrapped up warm.

    Burnley 0-0 Watford

Burnley's Stephen Ward wallops a clearance from the left-back position, and Watford are caught off guard as Chris Wood chases it. The home side's five-goal top scorer tries a first-time shot from outside the penalty area, but the back-pedalling Heurelho Gomes recovers and grabs.

    Burnley 0-0 Watford

Johann Gudmundsson is starting to have an influence for Burnley now. He climbs at the far post to head down a cross that falls to Scot Arfield, whose shot is charged down by Adrian Mariappa. Fine piece of defending, and much better from the home side after a wobbly start

Than Gudmundsson goes for goal from about 20 yards, and Heurelho Gomes watches it go by his post.

  6. GREAT SAVE!published at 17 mins

    Burnley 0-0 Watford

In the absence of the injured Brady, Gudmundsson beats a rather flimsy Watford wall, and Heurelho Gomes dives to his left to push the ball around the post. Closest we've come to a goal so far. The visitors' keeper gathers the resulting corner, and the danger passes.

Johann Gudmundsson is brought down by Tom Cleverley on the edge of the area. Free-kick in a central position here for the home side, but no Robbie Brady...

"Burnley's injured goalkeeper Tom Heaton doing a shift for local radio today by the looks of it. Penny for his thoughts. If it's BBC local radio, it will be a penny for his thoughts."

    Burnley 0-0 Watford

Opta is telling me that Watford have had 67% of the possession in the first 10 minutes. Burnley's Chris Wood tries to reverse the tide with a run down the right, but is closed out by Abdoulaye Doucoure, who is having a fine season.

Wood, unperturbed, has another go down the right and puts in a couple of useful balls. The first is cleared, the second goes through to Heurelho Gomes in the Watford goal.

    Burnley 0-0 Watford

Burnley are having to do a fair chunk of defending in the opening minutes. Sean Dyche's side are a disciplined lot, and they've fended the visitors off so far. A Tom Cleverley short corner allows Marvin Zeegelaar to chip in, and when the ball is cleared, Roberto Pereyra hammers in a first-time shot that is blocked.

Watford have got great pace in the side. Richarlison has been a great signing and Abdoulaye Doucoure is one of the players of the season so far.

I have been really impressed with the Hornets, and one thing I really like about the club is the feeling around the place and the people who work there. It's a club going in the right direction.

Another chance for Watford. Andre Carrillo, one of two players brought in by Marco Silva today, gets down the right and crosses for Richarlison. The Brazilian stretches to connect with his foot as the ball bounces up, and sends it over at the near post. Decent start to the game this.

Johann Gudmundsson sends one over the top for Chris Wood to chase for Burnley. Centre-back Christian Kabasele gives it a bit of the old 'you're not coming in if your name's not down, mate', and the ball rolls through to keeper Heurelho Gomes.

    Burnley 0-0 Watford

Watford have rejigged their formation today, with coach Marco Silva ditching last week's three-man defence in favour of a back four.

They almost score in the first two minutes as Tom Cleverley loops in a corner, Roberto Pereyra helps it on and there follows a crowd scene at the far post. Troy Deeney, Richarlison and Adrian Mariappa all get in each other's way, and the ball bobbles wide. Needed a shout from someone there. Or a polite shove.

    Burnley 0-0 Watford

I'm not saying it's cold at Turf Moor, but I think I've just seen a polar bear wearing a scarf. There's snow on the hills as Burnley, in claret and blue, kick off towards the Cricket Field Stand. Watford are in yellow and black.

I am going with Burnley to win at Turf Moor but you only have to look at the table to see how well both of these sides are doing.

So there we are. I hope I've made a convincing case for the glamour of Burnley v Watford, a game which, let's not forget, pitches seventh against eighth in the Premier League.

Watford have scored at least two goals in every away game this season. Can they keep that going at Turf Moor - a ground that, this season, has seen a total of only eight league goals? We shall see. The teams are on the pitch.

    Burnley v Watford (15:00 GMT)

    Steve Wilson

In August 2011 this fixture was Sean Dyche's first match as a manager, in charge of Watford, and a 2-2 draw represented a solid start.

Dyche spent just one season at Watford; almost the first act of the Pozzo family after their takeover was to replace him with Gianfranco Zola.

With Dyche now five years into a remarkable reign at Turf Moor, Burnley must be eternally grateful to the Pozzos for their lack of judgement.

Watford seem to have found a very decent manager of their own. Marco Silva dealt with Everton's interest carefully - never suggesting he wasn't amenable to the idea of being lured away, without actually agitating for a move.

Meanwhile, Dyche could be forgiven for wondering why Everton weren't making him an offer he couldn't refuse.

Burnley v Watford is such a glamorous fixture, that Match of the Day have sent along Steve Wilson, the man who commentated live for the BBC on Germany's 7-1 semi-final drubbing of Brazil at the last World Cup.

OK, the fact that he’s up in the North West anyway for tomorrow’s Merseyside derby may be a factor in that, but let’s not get bogged down in details. Steve’s preview is coming up in a couple of minutes.

    Burnley v Watford (15:00 GMT)

Six nationalities in Burnley's starting line-up, with four more on the bench. Robbie Brady's long-term knee injury, suffered at Leicester last weekend, means that Scott Arfield comes in on the flank.

Captain Ben Mee is also missing with a knee problem - though it's not too serious, according to Sean Dyche - so Kevin Long makes his first league appearance of the season, and Jack Cork takes the armband.

Burnley XI: Pope; Bardsley, Tarkowski, Long, Ward; Cork, Defour; Arfield, Hendrick, Gudmundsson; Wood.

Substitutes: Lindegaard, Taylor, Ulvestad, Westwood, Vokes, Barnes, Wells.
