Jonny Magrinho: Don’t really know why everyone is fixating on Karius being brought in for Mignolet. They’re as good as each other with or without a run of games.

SteveyGee: It's not Mignolet dropped, it's called rotation.

    My prediction?

I think Liverpool will struggle today because Leicester have been playing some nice stuff despite the results.

I'm hoping we get lots of goals though so I'm going for... 2-2. Sitting on the fence.

  3. Lawro's predictionpublished at 14:54 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2017

    Liverpool v Leicester (15:00 GMT)

Mark Lawrenson was up against Olympic gold medalist Darren Campbell and he thinks home advantage will be "massive" for Liverpool in this game.

He did add that "Leicester are far more dangerous opponents" than Swansea and he was "surprised" they dropped points against Watford last weekend.

Athlete Campbell is a Manchester United fan but he agrees with Lawro, as they have both predicted a Liverpool victory.

    Lawro's prediction: 2-0

    Darren's prediction: 2-1

    Head-to-head

    • Leicester beat Liverpool 2-0 in an EFL Cup third round tie in September before the Reds enjoyed a 3-2 victory over them just four days later in the league.
    • Liverpool haven't lost twice to the Foxes in a single season since 1998-99.
    • The past three Premier League meetings between these two clubs have seen 14 goals scored.
    • The Reds have lost three times against Leicester City under Jurgen Klopp in all competitions - more than they have against any other club since he took over.*

I managed to grab myself a copy of the match programme for Liverpool's trip to Burnley on New Year's Day.

Mohamed Salah has been identified as the star man and that's no wonder given the sensational year he has had.

Recently named BBC African Player of the Year, Salah has already netted 15 goals in the Premier League this season.

He's three behind Harry Kane so he will need to grab a hat-trick today to finish the year on top alongside him.

    Steve Wilson
    Match of the Day commentator

"Liverpool may be paying an eye-watering sum for Virgil van Dijk but will consider it worth paying if the Dutchman can offer some leadership and consistency.

"Klopp's defence must leave Philippe Coutinho, Mohamed Salah and co. tearing their hair out as their outstanding efforts are all too often undermined.

"Both these sides have already notched a win apiece from two games this season at the King Power, and both love to attack at pace and in numbers - goals look guaranteed.

"Leicester have actually failed to win any of their last four, while Boxing Day's big win over Swansea stretched Liverpool's unbeaten home record to 16 games in the league and cup.

"That's a piffling amount compared to the 85-match unbeaten run at Anfield which Leicester came up against in 1981, but the Foxes left with the points (only two back then) after a shock 2-1 victory."

Jurgen Klopp likes to rotate so it's no surprise to see further changes to the squad this week but it's a big statement to drop Simon Mignolet after a string of poor performances.

Likewise, will Demarai Gray have a big impact for Leicester today? He's a real talent and he will be up against young full-backs today.

Defeat by Watford means Leicester have now failed to win in four matches, having lost only one of Claude Puel's first eight games in charge.

The former Southampton manager has steadied the ship though and Leicester have climbed their way back into eighth place in the Premier League table.

They have a good record against Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool so we could be in for a close contest today.

Claude Puel has got Leicester playing very nice football the majority of the time now.

No-one in and around the Leicester area is expecting to get into the top six, we would be very happy with eighth. Why can't they be a best of the rest?

The former Southampton player is at Anfield today but he will not be eligible to play for the Reds until the Merseyside derby against Everton in the FA Cup third round on 5 January.

Hands up who saw this one coming? Ok, so that’s one, two, three, four... right, so pretty much all of you then.

Virgil van Dijk’s move from Southampton to Liverpool is hardly a surprise. They were interested in the summer but a move fell through when the Reds apologised for making an alleged illegal approach for the 26-year-old. What has raised some eyebrows is the fee, with the Saints strong-arming their rival out of £75m - a world record for a defender.

Happy days for Liverpool, who have a proven centre-back to try to solve their defensive issues. Happy days for Southampton, who have a big pile of cash. And happy days for Van Dijk’s ex-club Celtic, who get 10% of that £75m.

So that’s the first deal of the window. Where do we go from here?

The big change in Jurgen Klopp's team is that goalkeeper Loris Karius has come in for Simon Mignolet.

He is one of five changes for Liverpool, as Sadio Mane also returns to the side after he was rested against Swansea.

Leicester manager Claude Puel has made four changes to the side who were beaten 2-1 by Watford on Boxing Day.

Demarai Gray is back in the side - a player who could cause Liverpool a few problems today.
