It's much, much noisier from the home fans now after that, but yet again Brighton look happy to keep possession in response.

Atsu skims a good cross in from the left. Gayle gets in between two Brighton defenders and sends a header on target - but Ryan makes a wonderful save, diving away to his left to get his left hand on it and keep the scores level.

Brighton have responded well to Newcastle's pressure earlier, and look as comfortable as they were before the break.

Merino clatters Propper on the edge of the box, giving Brighton a free-kick on the edge of the 'D'. After much discussion with Knockaert, Gross takes it and shoots low - straight at Darlow.

That little flurry of action has lifted the home fans, but then they're on edge again as poor defending gives Davy Propper a shooting chance in the area. Thankfully, if you're a Newcastle fan, the Dutchman skews it a long way wide.

And now another for the hosts! And at last we have goalmouth action - Isaac Hayden hits a low shot that deflects off Dunk, and Ryan makes an excellent save low to his right to concede another corner, which Lascelles nods just wide of the post.

Much, much better from Newcastle.

The ball loops slowly onto the area, and Dunk has all the time in the world to nod it away.

And we're back under way, no changes from either side.

The whistle goes to end a lethargic-feeling 45 minutes, which Brighton have just about edged.

Brighton win their fifth corner - none for the hosts so far - and Duffy climbs above everyone else to get a connection, but his header floats over the corner of post and bar.

Joselu wriggles into space to work a shooting chance from just outside the 'D', but he pulls it low and slow past Ryan's right-hand post.

This is a case of two defences cancelling each other out so far, with very little to get excited about in either final third.

Mikel Merino picks the ball up from a rebound about 25 yards out, but his shot bobbles harmlessly wide of Ryan's left-hand post.

Newcastle are struggling to build any sustained pressure, and when the ball is played all the way back to Darlow from the Brighton area, the home fans - and Rafael Benitez - leave their side in no doubt about their feelings.
