Greg Halford didn't have much to celebrate in his time on Wearside almost 10 years ago. I'm sure today has given him a much better feeling.

Another former Sunderland man is looking frustrated at Villa Park. Forest striker Daryl Murphy has had fewer touches than anyone else on the pitch.

    There'll be one added minute...

    FT: Sunderland 1-2 Cardiff City

Cardiff remained level on points with Leeds and Wolves at the top of the Championship courtesy of a 2-1 victory at Sunderland today.

Here's what some of their players had to say about it on social media.

    Ah.

After the big build-up, Robert Snodgrass blasts the ball into the legs of the Forest wall.

    Not his best effort.

    Aston Villa 1-0 Nottingham Forest

The first yellow card rightly goes to Forest midfielder Liam Bridcutt for a late tackle on Keinan Davis.

It also means a free-kick in Robert Snodgrass territory...

Forest are intent on passing out from the back but it's not helping them. They put together plenty of passes without really getting anywhere before a wayward effort goes out for a Villa throw in.

The home fans love it. "Wheeeeeyyyyy" they cheer.

Nottingham Forest almost hand Albert Adomah a second on a plate.

A pass from the visitors is drilled back towards goalkeeper Jordan Smith but the ball hits centre-back Matt Mills in the shins instead.

Adomah then races onto the loose ball and fires a low shot from the edge of the area but it's a comfortable save for Smith. Adomah has his hands over his face. He knows that was a good chance.

Yet enough dangerous cross from Villa's Scotland international Robert Snodgrass.

This time Jonathan Kodjia is the target and Jordan Smith has to jump at full stretch to tip the ball out for a corner.

The set-piece delivery is decent but comes to nothing. John Terry is not happy and thinks he's having his shirt pulled by Matt Mills. He's definitely got a case.

There are a few more groans as Villa give the ball away during a promising attack. The home side may be ahead but their fans definitely don't sound confident.

Robert Snodgrass is starting to grow into this game and whips in another dangerous cross that's cleared with a diving header.

FT: Shrewsbury Town 1-1 Blackburn Rovers

Shrewsbury Town remain top of League One despite Bradley Dack scoring an 85th-minute leveller for Blackburn Rovers.

The Shropshire side have been a surprise package at the top end of the third tier so far this season and have the only remaining unbeaten record in the EFL.

However, manager Paul Hurst says his players were gutted to let the late equaliser in.

"A little sign of how far we've come is that I have a dressing room who feel they've been beaten," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"I've got an honest group of players who I'm enjoying being manager of."

Just as I write that, Tendayi Darikwa has Forest's first shot. It was from a tight angle on the right side of the area after he found space but, despite a good connection, he hit the side-netting.

Darikwa may well say that was a cross, but I'm saying shot.

There is some angry-sounding shouting coming from the touchline which sounds very much like the London accent of Mark Warburton.

The Forest boss is yet to see a shot on goal from his side despite them having more of the possession.

Keinan Davis knows how to handle himself despite being just 19 years of age. He spins Matt Mills, leaving the Forest defender no option but to bring him down.

The resulting free-kick doesn't come to much. Moments later, Robert Snodgrass swings in a good cross from the right in the direction of Davis and Jonathan Kodjia, but the ball is scrambled clear.

The home fans are getting right behind their side now as Albert Adomah fires over from long range.

This is a test for Forest now. They were well on top but were hit by a sucker punch. Television replays show their back line was less than organised for the goal.

  14. Stam critical of negativity from some fanspublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 23 September 2017

    FT: Reading 1-1 Hull

Reading got themselves a point late on against Hull today, but last season's play-off finalists haven't had the best of starts to the season.

Speaking to BBC Radio Berkshire, manager Jaap Stam had a message for a small group of fans who he believes are being too negative.

    Albert Adomah

Clinical. The last five minutes had been all Forest but Albert Adomah strikes with his third goal of the season.

It's a well worked goal with Jonathan Kodjia having the ball 30 yards out - he waited and waited for the right time to pass.

The through ball eventually came as Adomah made a diagonal run from the left side and the midfielder then coolly rounded goalkeeper Jordan Smith.

We're still waiting for the first meaningful effort on goal as the clock ticks beyond 10 minutes.

Forest are looking to find the quick feet of Barrie McKay at every opportunity. He has two goals and four assists this season so that's no surprise.

    Aston Villa 0-0 Nottingham Forest

This has been a decent little spell now for Forest. I mentioned that lack of support for Daryl Murphy but runners are starting to push forward in attack from midfield.

There are a few groans as Villa are caught in possession by one of those runners but Villa keeper Sam Johnstone comes out to collect the through ball played in Murphy's direction.

    Aston Villa 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest are very much playing with one striker, Daryl Murphy.

The visitors push forward and the ball is played infield to Andreas Bouchalakis. The Greek midfielder looks up for a pass and tries to feed the ball in Murphy's direction but it's wayward and goes behind for a goal kick.

There weren't too many options there for him in the middle.

Villa are the attack early on.

Teenage Keinan Davis shows off his good feet with a couple of stepovers and wins his side a corner...

The ball is swung in towards John Terry but the header goes harmlessly wide.

Still, a positive start for the hosts.
