It was second v third in La Liga earlier as Atletico Madrid beat Sevilla 2-0.

The game was watched by Diego Costa, who is set to rejoin Atletico from Chelsea in January, subject to personal terms and a medical, after the clubs agreed a fee for the Spain forward.

Atleti - at their new Wanda Metropolitano home - are doing fine without him for now and led when Yannick Carrasco rounded the keeper.

Antoine Griezmann smashed home their second from close range.

Atletico, who move above Sevilla into second, are one point behind Barcelona, who visit Girona at 19:45 BST.

    Manu Garcia

Wow. This is Alaves' first La Liga goal of the season. This is their sixth game. And what a goal to open their account, Manu Garcia powers Munir el Haddadi's cross past Keylor Navas with a header to level the score.

Munir is on loan from Barcelona.

    Alaves 0-1 Real Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo is lining up a free-kick 30 yards out - everyone is expecting a shot based on every bit of evidence we have from the last decade. But instead he clips it in for Sergio Ramos but the captain's header is saved. He might have been offside anyway.

  15. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Alaves 0-1 Real Madrid

There's not much happening at the moment on the pitch, Alaves have recovered a bit from the goal but Real are looking fairly comfortable. A few fouls have broken up any chance of a flowing move.

    Alaves 0-1 Real Madrid

The free-kick is from a wide angle but that doesn't stop Cristiano Ronaldo from shooting. It's headed clear by Rodrigo Ely though.

  17. YELLOW CARDpublished at 12 mins

    Alaves 0-1 Real Madrid

Real Madrid are on the march now and Carlos Vigaray fouls Nacho to concede a free-kick on the edge of the box. Yellow card.

    Dani Ceballos

It's Dani Ceballos' first start for Real Madrid. And it's his first goal. Yet another of the club's talented, young attacking midfielders, he gets a bit of luck to get possession towards the edge of the box, he holds off a couple of defenders and then smashes home.

That's pretty much the first thing Real have done today.

    Alaves 0-0 Real Madrid

A couple of scares for Real Madrid, as Keylor Navas has to punch away a header from his own defender, I think it was Nacho, and then Alaves want a penalty but the referee awards a free out for a trip on Casemiro. Could have gone either way.

  20. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Alaves 0-0 Real Madrid

Munir el Haddadi is in for Alaves, but the flag goes up. The Barcelona loanee shoots wide anyway. Not sure he was actually offside so probably just as well he missed for all concerned.
