Preston North End 0-2 Aston Villa

Villa looking threatening for a third goal here and Robert Snodgrass is involved once more.

His free-kick is first cleared, then Conor Hourihane has a shot blocked down and Snodgrass isn't quite able to direct a chance for himself on target.

    Approaching the hour mark.

Preston North End 0-2 Aston Villa

Plenty of hustle and bustle from Preston but little joy against a Villa side who've done a cracking job on them so far.

Nothing really going right for Alex Neil's men tonight.

  3. Postpublished at 20:57 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2017

    Birmingham City 0-0 Brentford

No changes to report at St Andrew's, where there's been little goalmouth action since half-time.

Brentford have been involved in seven draws in the Championship already this season and are on course for an eighth unless someone can produce a bit of second-half magic.

  4. Postpublished at 20:55 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2017

Preston North End 0-2 Aston Villa

Alan Browne has been forced to move to centre-back for Preston due to those knocks Calum Woods and Josh Earl picked up in the first half.

Villa now will look to exploit that and John Terry does his best to get on the end of a Robert Snodgrass free-kick for a decisive third goal. He can't quite time his dive and over the bar it goes.

  5. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:53 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2017

And we're off again for the second half in both of tonight's games.

Villa heading back into the top six as it stands. Double change for Preston as Calum Woods and Josh Earl make way for Paul Gallagher and Kevin O'Connor.

No goals so far in a first half that built nicely at St Andrew's.

Birmingham's Maikel Kieftenbeld hit the post with a long-range shot in the closing minutes of the first period, while Dan Bentley spilled a David Cotterill effort before the interval.

They've responded well to losing Maxime Colin to injury in the first few minutes.

Brentford have had chances to score too, with Lasse Vibe and Ollie Watkins going close.

  11. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:36 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2017

Preston North End 0-2 Aston Villa

And that's the interval at Deepdale.

Josh Earl was down getting some treatment for Preston in the last few seconds of added time there. Another injury for the hosts is the last thing they need at the back.

Villa lead after a very accomplished first 45 minutes courtesy of goals from James Chester and Robert Snodgrass.

  12. Postpublished at 20:34 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2017

Preston North End 0-2 Aston Villa

Preston push forward in stoppage time and Tom Barkhuizen finds the ball at his feet on the edge of the box.

He looks to drive one across goal, but it goes harmlessly wide from the North End striker and behind for a goal kick.

  13. INJURY TIMEpublished at 20:32 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2017

Preston North End 0-2 Aston Villa

Three minutes being added on at the end of the first half in this one.

  14. Postpublished at 20:31 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2017

Preston North End 0-2 Aston Villa

Half-time approaching at Deepdale and Preston just trying to settle things down somewhat.

Villa won't mind - they've done a very efficient job in this one so far in both boxes.

  15. Blues hit the postpublished at 20:29 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2017

    Birmingham City 0-0 Brentford

What an effort from Maikel Kieftenbeld!

The Birmingham midfielder strikes one from 30 yards and it flies to safety off the post.

  16. Postpublished at 20:28 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2017

    Birmingham City 0-0 Brentford

Ollie Watkins is a man in form right now, with four goals in his past six appearances for Brentford, but he can't find the target with a shot at St Andrew's.

Lasse Vibe forces another save from goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak as half-time approaches.

  17. Postpublished at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2017

Preston North End 0-2 Aston Villa

Someone of a Villa persuasion is clearly watching on and enjoying this so far tonight...

Preston, meanwhile, have to wait for Calum Woods to receive some treatment but the centre-back is thankfully back on his feet after a short pause in play.

GOAL: Preston North End 0-2 Aston Villapublished at 20:19 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2017

    Robert Snodgrass (33 mins)

Villa well and truly in control now of this one!

A sloppy mistake on halfway from Preston captain Ben Pearson is gobbled up by Josh Onomah on the break and then he surges on to the edge of the area and looks up to square it.

Robert Snodgrass arrives on the run and slides it in left-footed past the helpless Chris Maxwell.

  19. Postpublished at 20:18 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2017

    Birmingham City 0-0 Brentford

This man will be desperate to make an impression for Birmingham City tonight...

    JotaImage source, Rex Features

Blues paid a club-record fee, reported to be about £6m, for Jota in August but injury has hampered the early weeks of his spell at St Andrew's and he's still to score a goal for his new club.

Tonight would be as good a time as any.

  20. Postpublished at 20:17 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2017

Preston North End 0-1 Aston Villa

Villa still very much in the ascendancy of this one as we approach the half hour mark.

Josh Onomah shows some real tenacity in midfield as he battles through a couple of 50/50 challenges and then gets up on his feet to take a shot from just outside the box.

The Tottenham loanee fails to hit the target but is full of energy coming forward for the visitors.
