Brendan Rodgers' Celtic were given a stern test before preserving their 58-game unbeaten domestic run after a 2-2 draw with Neil Lennon's Hibs.

But they only remain top of the Premiership courtesy of goal difference after Adam Rooney returned to the Aberdeen starting line-up in emphatic fashion with a hat-trick in their 3-0 dismissal of fourth-top St Johnstone.

Asked if it was Partick Thistle's worst performance of the season, manager Alan Archibald told BBC Scotland: "It probably was.

"We didn’t cause them any problems, we didn’t have a shot or work their goalkeeper.

"There’s pressure every week, with every game you take on.

"It doesn’t change that, but the next home game against Kilmarnock is massive."

Stirling Albion squandered a two-goal lead as they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Elgin City but are still four points clear of Stenhousemuir.

Stenny beat Edinburgh City 3-0 and Montrose edged Clyde 3-2 to move above Peterhead into second and third respectively.

Peterhead slipped up after losing 2-0 at home to Berwick Rangers.

Cowdenbeath remain a point behind Edinburgh at the bottom after losing 1-0 away to Annan Athletic.

Forfar Athletic managed a 1-1 draw at home to Stranraer but remain bottom on goal difference after drawing level with Queen's Park, who lost 4-2 away to Airdrieonians.

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is delighted by the contribution of Adam Rooney, who scored all three at Pittodrie this afternoon.

"I thought we followed on from the win at Motherwell on Sunday," he said.

"We knew we had to get the better of a direct opponent and win our individual battles.

"That was the platform and we managed to play our more natural game, getting on the ball in good areas. We were really bright in the opening half hour.

"When we get good service to him, Adam Rooney is as good as anybody at finishing that off. His anticipation is fantastic.

Fraser Fyvie was Dundee United's two-goal hero as they won the game of the day in the Championship, 3-1 away to leaders Dunfermline Athletic.

As the Pars flopped in front of their own fans, St Mirren leapt to the top of the table with a 2-1 win over bottom-of-the-table Brechin City.

Falkirk got 77-year-old Alex Smith's latest spell as caretaker boss off to a flying start with a 1-0 win away to Morton to lift the Bairns out of the relegation places.

Callum McGregor was the Celtic hero today, scoring twice to make sure the champions did not lose their long unbeaten domestic run, but he's not anticipating a call-up for Scotland to replace injured club-mates Scott Brown and Stuart Armstrong.

"It was tight; Hibs gave it a real good go and put us under pressure," he tells BBC Radio Scotland.

"Towards the end of the game, there was a bit of tiredness, so credit to the lads for sticking in and getting the equaliser.

"I'm not expecting a call for Scotland. I think the manager is happy with his squad.

"All I can do is keep performing for Celtic and keep coming up with goals and assists."

Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson told BBC Scotland: "That’s probably our most important result of the season.

"Sometimes people get carried away with a cup result, but the league’s our bread and butter and we showed we are a good team.

"We started brightly and, after 20 minutes, we should have been two or three up then we took our foot off the gas.

"I let them know that, at half time, and the second-half performance was excellent."

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is delighted to escape with a draw but thinks his side should have had a late penalty that would have given them a chance to score a winner against Hibs.

"It was arguably our result of the season," he told BBC Radio Scotland.

"Coming into the game today, it was always going to be difficult.

"Hibs have shown that, on their day, they are a very good side.

"It is an amazing indication of the run we have been on - with the tiredness creeping in after all the midweek travel and you go 2-1 down but to come back I have nothing but pride for the players.

"I give credit to my players for everything they put into this last month.

"We have played a lot of games in a short space of time."

Speaking to BBC Scotland, Hibernian head coach Neil Lennon said: "It’s very difficult to put into words how proud I am at that performance.

"We didn’t take a step back the whole game. It was an outstanding team performance.

"A draw was probably a fair result, but we are disappointed not to win.

"You have to earn the right to play good football. First half, we weren’t good enough, but second half we were outstanding.
