    A goalkeeping blunder by Arsenal's David Ospina, external for Colombia on Tuesday had an indirect role in Alexis Sanchez's Chile failing to qualify.

    Wenger admits it is an unusual coincidence but doesn't expect it to be a problem on the London Colney training ground today.

    On contract talks with Mesut Özil - who is now believes to want to stay at the Emirates - Wenger was cautiously upbeat.

    He said: "Talks are going well.

    "That is my understanding (that he wants to stay). The fact that we didn't find agreement last year doesn't mean he wants to leave.

    "The player looks happy. At the present time there is no deal close for me to announce."

    Arsene Wenger says former Arsenal midfielder Marc Overmars will not be returning to the club as Director of Football.

    Asked about speculation the Dutchman could be set to leave Ajax for North London, he said it was not currently on the agenda.

    He said: " At the moment he is at Ajax and we have been in touch but he has no Director of Football role here at the moment."

    Hmmm - that sounds a bit like not yet but never say never.

    World Cup heartache

    Wenger laments the set-backs at international level for Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey who are both going to miss out on the 2018 World Cup.

    On Sanchez he said: "I will have to speak to him. He got some special treatment in a very physical game (v Brazil) and mentally I'll have to assess the situation.

    "I believe he and Ramsey are winners and will want to focus on winning things. When you don't have the World Cup you focus on your club."
