  1. goal

GOAL Derby 1-0 Aston Villapublished at 15:26 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2017

    Andreas Weimann (25 mins)

The curse of the former player strikes once again.

Andreas Weimann was deemed surplus to requirements at Aston Villa and he's got his revenge - receiving Matej Vydra's square pass and thumping in.

Glenn Whelan won't want to see that again - the Villa midfielder's backpass is what gave away possession.

  2. goal

GOAL Bolton 0-1 Burtonpublished at 15:25 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2017

    Lloyd Dyer (24 mins)

Just as I was saying how dull the game had been!

It's a cracking finish from Lloyd Dyer - the ball drops to the Burton winger 25 yards out and he volleys into the bottom corner in style.

A big goal at the bottom.

Neither side on top here in first quarter of game but Bristol City enjoying their best spell now.

Forest’s top scorer Daryl Murphy had a shot saved whilst Bobby Reid’s acrobatic effort from six yards went wide.

    Ipswich 1-0 Reading

Reading are growing into the game at Portman Road as they chase an equaliser against Ipswich.

Dave Edwards has gone close for the visitors only to be denied by Bartoz Bialkowski and BBC Berkshire's Tim Dellor says: "What a save! Edwards must have thought he'd scored there."

    Bolton 0-0 Burton

Not much has happened in the opening 20 minutes of this one.

Two teams in the lower reaches of the Championship, though Bolton have confidence from a better set of recent results.

In fact, I reckon 'still 0-0' will be trending on Twitter soon - it's been a slow start across the board...

  6. goal

GOAL Birmingham 0-1 QPRpublished at 15:19 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2017

    Jack Robinson (19 mins)

    QPR scoreImage source, Rex Features

Birmingham have been dreadful of late and QPR haven't won away since February - but something had to give.

The visitors have had a series of free-kicks and this time Luke Freeman's ball in is met by a powerful Jack Robinson header which finds the far corner.

    Derby 0-0 Aston Villa

David Nugent could already be on a hat-trick for Derby.

Having been thwarted in the first couple minutes, the striker gets on the end of Craig Forsyth's whipped ball but is denied by Sam Johnstone's diving save.

  8. Quiet start in Leagues One and Twopublished at 15:16 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2017

Anyone arriving late at Sixfields Stadium may well have missed all the action as Walsall went a goal up at Northampton after just two minutes thanks to Erhun Oztumer.

But the lead only lasted two minutes before Chris Long levelled for the Cobblers.

The only other side to score so far in League One this afternoon is Bradford City, who have taken the lead at Southend thanks to Dominic Poleon's goal.

Meanwhile, there's been just one goal in League Two so far - Coventry City's Tom Bayliss giving the Sky Blues a second-minute lead at home to Cheltenham Town.

    Bristol City 0-0 Nott'm Forest

We're approaching the 15 minute mark at Ashton Gate and Bristol City go close via some acrobatics.

The energetic Joe Bryan crosses for Bobby Reid, who takes an audacious swipe at it and connects... but the effort is just wide of the Forest post.

  10. What a difference a year makespublished at 15:14 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2017

Derby boss Gary RowettImage source, Rex Features

Gary Rowett took over Derby in March and has won half of his games in charge. They're fourth and are playing fifth-placed Aston Villa.

He was sacked by Birmingham a year ago and they have won just eight games out of 46 since.

I wonder what their fans are thinking?

  11. Postpublished at 15:12 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2017

    Bristol City 0-0 Nott'm Forest

Frank Fielding is forced into a first save of the afternoon for Bristol City, pushing Daryl Murphy's angled drive wide for a corner.

Both showed agility - Murphy for the turn before his shot and Fielding to get down low enough.

    Sunderland 0-0 Fulham

Sunderland v FulhamImage source, Rex Features

As you can imagine when Sunderland haven't won there all year, the Stadium of Light is a tense place.

What doesn't help is the hosts have once again started slowly - Ryan Sessegnon puts a dangerous ball across goal which Stefan Johansen is inches away from getting on the end of for Fulham.

    Phew!

  13. CLOSE!published at 15:07 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2017

    Derby 0-0 Aston Villa

The hosts come very close to an early advantage.

Matej Vydra puts David Nugent in but the ex-England international is denied by a superb last-ditch tackle.

That was as big as scoring a goal for Aston Villa.

  14. goal

GOAL Ipswich 1-0 Readingpublished at 15:04 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2017

    Callum Connolly (3 mins)

Dream start for Ipswich, terrible one for Reading. Leandro Bacuna loses possession for the Royals, Ipswich race down the other end and Callum Connolly drives in from the edge of the box for his third goal in four games.

Thousands of cricket fans up and down the country will have disrupted their sleep to follow yet another dreadful day for England's cricket side in the Ashes against Australia.

It makes you wonder why you bother. As a Plymouth supporter I've often spent 10 hours on a coach in one day to watch my team lose convincingly.

But us sports fans are gluttons for punishment - what lengths have you gone to get behind your team, only to see them spectacularly fail?
