It is about damage-limitation for Bristol City now.

Aden Flint has gone back to centre-half now. It didn't work today, putting him up front. He should have scored at 2-0.

    Birkir Bjarnason

He's only just come on but Birkir Bjarnason - picked out by Alan Hutton in the area - calmly tucks in Villa's fourth.

How damaging could this be - mentally - to Bristol City's promotion bid?

    Villa are rampant now.

Reaction: Sheffield Wednesday 0-3 Burton Albion

Earlier, managerless Sheffield Wednesday were well-beaten at home by Burton Albion, who picked up their third successive win on the road to lift them to within goal difference of safety.

Wednesday caretaker boss Lee Bullen was in the dugout for a third match since the departure of Carlos Carvalhal, but had few positives to say at full-time.

"I'm 100% embarrassed by that performance," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"The goals we lost you wouldn't see in a school playground. The first goal is a joke. For someone to waltz 50 yards with the ball, through four or five players without anyone laying a glove on him is embarrassing.

"We said at half-time that they would sit deep and look to hit us on the counter so we had to keep the backdoor shut and less than five minutes into the second half we were 2-0 down."

The visitors had been really coming in to the game since half-time, but they missed their chances and have been clinically punished on the break.

Head coach Lee Johnson gambled, going for it with a double change at half-time and a switch to three at the back. They committed men forward, but there was always the risk of them being stretched at the back.

It looks like a lost cause now for Bristol City, who will just be playing for pride now.

3-0 and game over. This is how Villa need to be.

Robert Snodgrass, when Steve Bruce really needed him, has stepped up to the plate.

Snodgrass also scored Villa's win at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

  14. Neil at a loss to explain Boro defeatpublished at 18:42 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Reaction: Preston 2-3 Middlesbrough

    Alex NeilImage source, Rex Features

Preston boss Alex Neil was left wondering how his side failed to take anything away from their match with Middlesbrough at Deepdale.

The Lillywhites saw a 2-1 half-time lead snatched away from them as Boro came back to win 3-2 and hand new manager Tony Pulis a first win in charge.

"I don't even think a draw would've been a fair result, I thought we deserved to win the game," Neil told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"We had 20 shots at goal, we moved the ball really well in the first half, created a lot of chances and deservedly took the lead.

"But, the simple fact is at this level playing against the top teams, the difference can be winning a header in your own box and clearing your own lines. That's how fine the margins are that have cost us.

"When chances came along, we either hit the bar or had a shot saved by the keeper."

Meanwhile, defender Aden Flint has gone up front alongside Taylor.
