  1. Goodbye for nowpublished at 17:03 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2017

That's it from me this afternoon. Thanks for your tweets on Cristiano Ronaldo. I'm surprised at how many don't rate him as one of the greats.

I'll be back later on for Juventus v Inter Milan. But there's still some football right now.

Live text commentary of Newcastle v Leicester's game is here.

Oseloka Ilondior: Don't get all the talk that Cristiano not being a team player & just goal scorer. He has 202 career assists to Messi's 236.

Aadam: All the people saying "Ronaldo's" international success makes him better than Messi ... he missed the final, while Messi led his country to 3 consecutive finals winning player of the tournament on each occasion. Just silly how people look at stats.

  4. Postpublished at 16:55 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2017

    Real Madrid 5-0 Sevilla

Marcos Llorente's ambitious volley from the edge of the D is badly hit and dribbles wide. There haven't been many shots at all in this second half.

Mark Richmond: Is Ronaldo the greatest player ever? Don’t think he’s even the greatest Ronaldo ever! That’s the Brazilian Phenom

Obriki Mudiaga: At 32, he still continues the impossible. Taking Madrid to back to back Champions League titles, taking an average Portugal team to Conquer Europe. Definitely the greatest

Zain: All this talk about Ronaldo vs Messi again! Messi always had the comfort of world class team-mates. I mean there is a difference between Benzema/Huntelaar and Ronaldinho/Neymar/Suarez/Villa/Eto'o etc. Same with International team. Ronaldo is a more complete player.

  6. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:51 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2017

    Real Madrid 5-0 Sevilla

Michael Krohn-Dehli replaces Ever Banega for Sevilla. Not sure the creative midfielder can turn this round...

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:46 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2017

    Real Madrid 5-0 Sevilla

You don't often see this. Cristiano Ronaldo, chasing a hat-trick, is replaced by Isco for the final 15 or so minutes.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:41 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2017

    Real Madrid 5-0 Sevilla

Real Madrid are so comfortable that they can bring on fringe players. Dani Ceballos replaces Luka Modric.

Jake: I think Ronaldo just thought it's too easy so he'll give everyone a little headstart, he'll be scoring hat-tricks for fun for the rest of the season, you watch!

Kuda: The Ronaldo-Messi debate is just pure madness. Clearly Messi fans think he's the best ever, so do the Ronaldo fans. It's such a good topic for trolls to feed off

Ed Shackle: People seem to have incredibly short memories. How has everyone forgotten how just a few months ago he single handedly drove Madrid through the Champions League knockout phases. CR7 would never 'retire from his country' because he was feeling sorry for himself....

  10. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 16:37 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2017

    Real Madrid 5-0 Sevilla

Almost 6-0 as Karim Benzema crashes a header off the post from Marcelo's cross.

  11. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:33 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2017

    Real Madrid 5-0 Sevilla

Not loads to tell you about - neither side are going for it. Everyone's probably willing to keep this scoreline.

Real bring off goalscorer Toni Kroos and he's replaced by Marcos Llorente.

Michael Dunne: look at all the CR7 naysayers based on dislike of Ronaldo's ego. I agree BTW but, he is a more complete footballer than Messi, Maradona, et al. Little dribblers with velcro ball control are awesome, but Cristiano has pace, power, aerial ability AND can dribble/shoot

Therealnews: ronaldo yet again responding to his critics

Koya Olufemi: Before people start comparing stats about Ronaldo and Messi, check it out. Ronaldo is not far behind on the assist chart which means he's a team player and also one of the best players

  13. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:27 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2017

    Real Madrid 5-0 Sevilla

Sevilla make their first change - Pablo Sarabia replaces Nolito up front.

Ricki Gonsalves: May just be the view of a recent generation but Ronaldo and Messi are statistically the best ever forwards aren't they? And I think Ronaldo's international success gives him the edge between them.

Oseloka Ilondior: Cristiano is no doubt is the best ever! He's proven himself at the highest level with 2 separate clubs, in two of the best leagues in the world. He holds the highest individual records and the most individual awards ever The records say so and we must agree too!

Sreekanth Vedula: that’s a lot of hate already in the comments for Ronaldo.. he may not be the best guy when presenting himself but he is easily one of the greats of all time.. he just wants to do the best on the pitch, not to please people

  15. Postpublished at 16:23 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2017

    Real Madrid 5-0 Sevilla

Sevilla have their first shot on target as Nolito basically rolls the ball at Keylor Navas. A sack of spuds would have saved that shot.

  16. Postpublished at 16:21 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2017

    Real Madrid 5-0 Sevilla

Real Madrid are dominating possession - cruise control is the expression - but haven't created a chance yet after the break.

Bimochan Bhandari: Ronaldo is not most technically gifted player but he certainly makes into top five best player ever.

Seth Gogo Egoeh: For me, I wouldn't say he is the best of all time. Definitely the best of the 21st Century, but comes after Pele. The top 6 for me are: Pele, CR7, Maradona, Zidane, Messi, Brazillian Ronaldo

Nick Wagstaff: "Is [insert generational superstar name here] the best ever?" must be the most unanswerable question in football. But if forced, I think it's Maradona, with Johann Cruyff next and Lionel Messi in 3rd.

  18. KICK-OFFpublished at 16:16 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2017

More of the same? Sevilla will hope not. Would they take 5-0 now? Will Real settle for five? Let's find out.

John McEnerney: ZZ playing mind games to get CR7 out of his goal slump? Him & Leo are greats but not the greatest they don’t win games on their own like Maradona, Ronaldinho or Zidane did they are/were surrounded by quality like AI, XH, XA, LS, LM etc! Still greats though!

O Cube: Ronaldo just a lethal striker. When not scoring he's just ordinary... Messi, during MSN era showed his completeness by good link up play and assists; he's always relevant.. Ballon rewards goal scorers these days.

M1N355: Ronaldo is a goal machine, but that doesn't make him the greatest. Messi is a genius, the things we see him do on the pitch are out of this planet.
