And it's second again for Argentine genius Lionel Messi.

He scored an extraordinary 54 goals for Barcelona last season - although his side failed to win the league title not the Champions League.

It looks like it might be a different story in La Liga this season - Barca are currently five points clear at the top and eight clear of Real.

Messi has scored 17 goals so far.

    Magic!

  3. 3 - Neymarpublished at 19:31 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2017

    Neymar is third.

The Brazilian - through no fault of his own - became the most expensive player in the history of association football when PSG paid £200m to acquire the forward from Barcelona.

Surely that alone didn't seal his top three spot? Well, no.

Neymar created 91 chances in La Liga last season and scored 20 goals.

    Decent return.

His 15 goals have helped PSG to the top of Ligue 1... where they will remain for the rest of the season.

Andy J: The mind boggles as to how De Gea is 20th

M Graham: Alan Kennedy (18.21), what an odd argument. "If you disregard something Ronaldo is really good at, Messi is a better footballer". You can't penalise Ronaldo for being taller!

Rob in Oxford: RE Shadyvipy at 18:14. He hasn’t come further than Lewandowski. He’s come ahead of Cavani and Suarez simply because he’s had a better year. His goals to game ratio is only bettered by Messi and Lewandowski
