A heroic effort from Al Jazira. The team from the UAE can walk away with their heads held high after a brilliant performance. Had their second goal not been disallowed for offside the result may well have been different.

They certainly gave their more illustrious opponents a fright.

For Real Madrid, on to Sunday's final with Gremio. A few training sessions to work on their finishing might be advisable.

A stunning vertical scissor kick from Gareth Bale on the edge of the box almost increases Real Madrid's advantage in the dying moments but Khaled Al-Senani is able to scramble across goal to keep the ball out.

Still backs-to-the-wall stuff from Al Jazira with around 10 minutes to go. Even if they ultimately end up losing this game it will have been a heroic effort to hold Real Madrid for so long.

Substitute Marco Asensio the latest to try his hand from distance for Real Madrid with a well-struck curling effort which goes just past the top corner.

At the other end of the pitch Al Jazira hit on the counter attack but Ahmed Rabee is denied a shooting chance as Nacho snuffs out the danger.

A low cross picks out Karim Benzema but with goal at his mercy the France striker contrives to hit the frame of the goal again. Moments later Cristiano Ronaldo heads inches wide from a corner.

Real Madrid have been a little cavalier at times here. There have been chances on the counter attack for Al Jazira. Romarinho scampers away but running out of steam he strikes a powerful shot from distance which hits the side netting.

A wonderful block from Khaled Al-Senani to deny Karim Benzema at the near post. The replacement goalkeeper will have taken a lot of confidence from that.

Al Jazira goalkeeping coach Manuel Almunia has earned his corn here.

Karim Benzema with a daisy cutter which is parried by Khaled Al-Senani. Moments later a teasing ball is sent into the penalty area but nobody in a Real shirt is able to get a touch.

Approaching the hour mark and Al Jazira are like a boxer on the ropes here. Real will surely deliver that knockout blow in the next 30 minutes.
