Ross County manager Owen Coyle was adamant his side's 3-2 defeat by Hamilton Academical was harsh on his side.

He told BBC Scotland: "It's an unfair result. Anybody watching the game will certainly know who the better side was. We controlled the game for large periods, and felt aggrieved to be 1-0 down to begin with.

"The penalty decision - Dougie Imrie is already on his way down when he's outside the box and the referee has given a penalty.

"It's the referee's first game at this level and it's always tough when you come into this environment and I certainly hope he's better for the experience, but I felt there were a number of things today that didn't go our way. You've got to get the major decisions correct.

"It was a travesty today. But we'll take our medicine, pick ourselves up and be ready to go again."

Hamilton's Giannias Skondras was red carded in injury time after a touchline melee involving players, coaching staff and officials.

"He certainly threw a punch at some point," said Coyle.

"There's no place for that in the game, both sides, and I've let my players know very clearly that we will not accept that."

"It was fantastic to have the character to keep coming back to find another goal each time we were pegged back.

"The performance levels have been high of late but we haven't picked up enough points. Today I wasn't caring about how the game went; it was just about the three points."

His verdict on the brawl at the end of the match? A good, old-fashioned "handbags".

Interim Rangers boss Graeme Murty: "I'd like to apologise to everyone who came expecting a better performance than we gave," he told Rangers TV.

"For the last four games, the lads have managed to reach a level, maybe not technically, but intensity-wise that we didn't see today.

"We've put a lot into the last four games and we didn't get to where we needed to today. There's no excuse."

Partick Thistle manager Alan Archibald questioned the desire of his side as they fell to a 3-0 defeat by Dundee.

Archibald told BBC Scotland: "We didn't put enough into the game. I think some of my players thought they were just going to turn up and win today because we won on Wednesday night. Football is not like that.

"We were second to every ball and Dundee looked like they had more desire than us, certainly in the middle of the pitch.

"The goals that were given away were comedy stuff."

With Thistle rooted to the bottom of the table, Archibald is already looking ahead to January's transfer window to make changes.

He said: "We're still waiting on players coming back.

"If we get three or four players back there'll be less changes, but we'll certainly have to make some changes in the transfer window."

St Johnstone have won at Ibrox in the league for the first time since 1971.

Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson is puzzled by a narrow loss at Rugby Park.

"How we've not won the game, never mind come away with nothing, is a really hard one to take," he tells BBC Sportsound.

"That is probably our best away performance of the season, better than Aberdeen, but the harsh reality is that Russell [Griffiths] has been punished for his one mistake.

"We had chance after chance and we didn't take them. Those are the two areas we need to improve on but, in terms of the boys' attitude and application, we can't do a whole lot more. I'll take a lot of positives from today."

Dundee manager Neil McCann hailed his side's "totally dominant performance" as they brushed Partick Thistle aside 3-0 at Dens Park.

McCann told BBC Scotland: "Partick changed their formation because we were well on top from the first whistle.

"It's brilliant. That's the level back now to what they've been performing like before.

"I thought we had some unbelievably good performances. The most pleasing fact for me was that we got a total team performance and a fantastic result to back it up.

"I don't think it's a statement other than we're back on form. I think we reaffirmed we're a good side."

McCann also praised his two goalscorers Mark O'Hara and Sofien Moussa.

He said: "Mark O'Hara - his power at times is uncontrollable.

"Moussa has had some criticism, but I think today showed why I think so highly of him. When he's like that, I think he's unplayable."

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright: "After the disappointment of Wednesday night, [the defeat by Aberdeen] it was important we came here and put on a performance. We did and we changed the shape a little bit and it worked.

"Overall, a great performance and three goals from three different players - and all excellent goals, great finishes."

Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke talking to BBC Sportsound: "Motherwell made us fight for everything, as we expected. It was a scrappy goal but it was one of those games that a scrappy goal was always going to win and I'm pleased we got it.

"Jamie MacDonald has been good since I got to the club and today, when we needed him, he made some great saves.

"We're getting the rub of the green, the wee bounce of the ball that probably wasn't going for us before I got here. I said to the players that when you are in a moment like that it's important to maximise it and pick up the points."

Referee Craig Thomson explains his decision to BBC Sportsound:

"At the start of the game, the pitch was in good condition but it started to get harder as the temperature dropped. A film of frost started to develop and a number of players expressed concerns about turning and stopping.

"I checked the pitch at half time and I felt that it would only have got worse. The safety of players is paramount and it was not a great spectacle for spectators."
