A section of the Manchester United support responded to that goal by ironically chanting 'what a waste of money' in recognition of the huge salary Alexis Sanchez is earning.

I am not entirely sure if there is a goals bonus involved but it will be a relief to get the first one out of the way anyway.

I am not sure if Romelu Lukaku was the initial choice to come off when Anthony Martial was introduced just then.

Fourth official Mike Dean had his board ready when Jose Mourinho mentioned something to assistant Rui Faria as the game was continuing.

Faria then spoke to Dean and there was a bit of scurrying around and Dean altered the board, and when the time came the number nine was on it.

Atom and Humber will be delighted.

Sanchez goes low and left but his shot is saved by Jonas Lossl. But the Chilean makes no mistake with the rebound to score his first goal for the club.

  17. Lukaku's getting his form backpublished at 16:21 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2018

    Man Utd 1-0 Huddersfield

Romelu Lukaku's performances have received a fair bit of criticism recently.

However, the Belgian has scored four times in the last six games, and 19 in all competitions for Manchester United this season.

Interestingly, he has only scored more than one in a game twice.

Most managers would say it is better to get one every game than three in one and none in the next two.

That is Romelu Lukaku's 19th goal for Manchester United.
