All the signs suggest that we should be in for a good game tonight.

With both sides pushing for bigger and better things under relatively new managers there is plenty to play for. Both Boro in 8th and Leeds in 11th will think the play-offs are within their sights.

Both can also call upon in-form front men in the form of Patrick Bamford and Pierre-Michel Lasogga.

After going 11 without a goal, Bamford has scored three goals in his last two Championship games, while Lasogga has netted in three of Leeds' last four league games. If the service is good, the goals could flow.

Results have been a mixed bag for Paul Heckingbottom since he left Barnsley to become Leeds United head coach on 6 February.

Defeat by Sheffield United in his first game in charge was followed by two draws, but Heckingbottom finally got off the mark last Saturday when Liam Cooper's header secured three points against Brentford.

They have had to train inside for two days because of the wintry weather, which has not been ideal preparation as they look to close a six-point gap to the play-off places.

"Things are going in the right direction. It was the first win for a long, long time. Hopefully it's the first of many now," Heckingbottom told BBC Radio Leeds.

Middlesbrough v Leeds United (KO 19:45 GMT)

Leeds have made the 67-mile trip to the Riverside on a noteworthy anniversary for the club.

Fifty years ago today, Don Revie's Leeds side beat Arsenal 1-0 at the old Wembley to win the League Cup, external, with left-back Terry Cooper scoring the game's only goal.

It was the first major trophy as Leeds boss for Revie, who had brought them up from the old Second Division four years earlier, and a crowd of over 97,000 attended the match.

The Whites went on to win the league title twice, the Fairs Cup twice and the FA Cup before Revie left in 1974 to become England boss. He died in 1989 at the age of 61.

  5. All hail the ground staffpublished at 19:23 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March 2018

Middlesbrough v Leeds United (KO 19:45 GMT)

Good evening. First the good news: the game is going ahead,

I don't know if you've noticed, but the weather hasn't been great this week. But despite the snow, ice, sleet and cold, Middlesbrough's ground staff have been busy making sure this game is playable.

"The groundsmen have been absolutely fantastic," Boro manager Tony Pulis told BBC Radio Tees.

"The support that we've had - people coming in and helping - and what they're doing at the ground to get this match on, I think it just proves this is a can-do club."

There's a pristine pitch at the Riverside. Excellent work!
