Alfie Mawson returns from a knee injury to start today's game at the Amex for Swansea City.

And according to the 24-year-old's manager Carlos Carvalhal, he's "one of the best" centre-backs in the Premier League.

High praise indeed. Although the Portuguese stopped short of discussing Mawson's prospects of making Gareth Southgate's World Cup squad.

Today's early kick-off in the Premier League had some added interest for the Seagulls and the Swans, with survival rivals Stoke City drawing 1-1 at Leicester City.

It could have been more for the Potters, who had led at the King Power, before a stinker of an own goal by their goalkeeper Jack Butland.

So, with that in mind, here's how the table is looking...

You'll have to draw your own imaginary relegation dotted line, I'm afraid.

And if any West Brom fans are reading, don't worry, you haven't been kicked out of the league.

The 20th placed Baggies are six points behind Stoke and host Huddersfield in another of the 15:00 GMT kick-offs.

  3. What the managers say...published at 14:45 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2018

    Brighton v Swansea (15:00 GMT)

Brighton manager Chris Hughton: "It's another massive game this weekend but they all are. The change in manager has changed Swansea's mood, and wins against big sides have spurred them on.

"It'll be a game against a very well-organised side. They have a new shape and good players.

"But we're at home and there's an onus on us to push to win. We're in good form."

Swansea manager Carlos Carvalhal: "It is normal in this competition, there are not many differences between the teams.

"Some start well and then lose points, we did not start well but are getting points in the last period.

"This is a marathon and at the end the real place of the clubs will be there; the worst will be bottom and the best will be top and we are fighting hard not to be in the bottom three."

I get stick from Swansea fans every time I pick them to lose but they should probably thank me for doing that because, every time I do, they win.

So, the bad news for Swans supporters is that I am backing them to get a draw this time.

    Prediction:1-1

    Head-to-head

    • Brighton ended a run of four games without a goal against Swansea in all competitions when Glenn Murray gave them a 1-0 win at the Liberty Stadium this season.
    • The Seagulls could do the league double against Swansea for the first time.
    • Brighton are one of seven teams to beat Swansea in all four divisions, along with Burnley, Cardiff City, Fulham, Hull City, Luton Town and Watford.

    • Brighton have lost just three of their 13 home matches in the Premier League this season, against Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea.
    • Only four Englishmen have scored more Premier League goals this season than Glenn Murray's eight: Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, Jamie Vardy and Wayne Rooney.
    • Jose Izquiredo could become the third Colombian to score in three consecutive Premier League games, following Hamilton Ricard and Juan Pablo Angel.

    Swansea City

    • Swansea have drawn five successive away games in all competitions.
    • They have scored just nine goals in 13 Premier League away games.
    • All 13 of Jordan Ayew's Premier League goals have been scored in the second half of games.

Brighton make one change to the side that drew 1-1 at Stoke in their last Premier League match, on 10 February.

Anthony Knockaert returns to the Seagulls' starting XI, with Solly March taking a place on the bench.

The Seagulls also name record signing Jurgen Locadia, who scored on debut in last week's FA Cup tie with Coventry, among their substitutes.

Brighton XI: Ryan, Bong, Dunk, Stephens, Knockaert, Gross, Murray, Izquierdo, Schelotto, Duffy, Propper.

Subs: Krul, Bruno, Kayal, Hemed, Goldson, Brown, Izquierdo.

Swansea are boosted by the return of Alfie Mawson, who suffered a knee injury ahead of the FA Cup match at Sheffield Wednesday, meaning Carlos Carvalhal is able to name the same Swansea side that beat Burnley two weeks ago.

Leon Britton remains out with a pelvis injury and Renato Sanches continues to recover from a hamstring strain.

Swansea XI: Fabianski, Ki, Van der Hoorn, Mawson, Dyer, Carroll, Olsson, Clucas, Jordan Ayew, Naughton, Fernandez.

Subs: Nordfeldt, Abraham, Narsingh, Routledge, Andre Ayew, King, Bartley.
