At the other end, Vitolo goes down in the box after a challenge from Mateo Kovacic but the referee deems the Atletico winger was the fouler not the foulee so free out.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone does not expect the fact neither side are challenging for the title to detract from the derby.

"I have had derbies when we were first, eighth, ninth.

"But derbies are passionate because the fans experience them all the same way. I don't imagine things being any different."

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane: "We'll be going out to win the game. We can't sit back or consider approaching it in any other way.

"We're up against a very good side, both defensively and in attacking terms. It'll be a good game and our intensity levels will be key. We want to keep our good run going against Atletico."There are three points at stake and this game is equally important for both sides. We want to cut the gap at the top. Atletico deserve to be where they are in the standings and all we can do is make up some ground on them.

"Out duty is to give our all in every game and reduce the gap as much as we can. We've got to continue to go all out right until the end of the La Liga season."

  12. Can Ronaldo make it 10 in a row?published at 15:08 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid (15:15 BST)

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is currently enjoying one of the great goalscoring runs in the modern game.

His double against Juventus (including THAT bicycle kick) means his current scoring stats read...

    • Ronaldo has scored 19 goals in his past nine games for Real (scoring in each one) - 25 in 13 for club and country.
    • He has scored 39 goals in 36 games for Real this season - more goals than anyone else who plays in one of Europe's top five leagues (England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain).

And as if to prove his bicycle was no fluke (not that anybody could suggest it was) here he was doing it in training again in the last couple of days...

Real Madrid make four changes from the 3-0 win over Juventus - with Gareth Bale back in the starting line-up. Marco Asensio, Lucas Vazquez and Mateo Kovacic are also in. Karim Benzema, Isco, Luka Modric and Casemiro drop to the bench.

Real have a bit of a defensive injury crisis, their only defender on the bench is attacking full-back Theo Hernandez - whose brother Lucas starts for Atletico.

Just two changes from Atletico's 2-0 win over Sporting Lisbon. Thomas Partey and Vitolo start - Angel Correa and Gabi are benched.
