Summary

  • West Brom will be relegated if they don't win

  • Tottenham will confirm Champions League place if they win and Chelsea fail to win on Sunday

  1. CLOSE!published at 29 mins

    West Brom 0-0 Tottenham

So close for Harry Kane, he receives the ball from an Erik Lamela cross and his header drifts just wide of the post after a touch from Ben Foster.

He then has another chance seconds later and it's deflected wide. Good pressure from Spurs.

  2. Postpublished at 28 mins

    West Brom 0-0 Tottenham

Good build-up play from Spurs around the box is ended when Erik Lamela plays the ball to absolutely nobody and it rolls out of play.

He'll say the sun was in his eyes for that one.

  3. CLOSE!published at 24 mins

    West Brom 0-0 Tottenham

This game is far from a classic so far, but Spurs have just gone very close.

Victor Wanyama receives the ball outside the box, he creates space and launches a curling effort towards Ben Foster's top-left corner. Foster gets a glove to it, but good pressure from the Spurs attack.

An unexpected visitor just came into the press room at The Hawthorns to watch this afternoon's game.

Spurs keeper Paulo Gazzaniga wandered in to sit down and watch the game.

The Argentine stayed for a couple of minutes before a colleague called him away to go somewhere else.

  5. Postpublished at 21 mins

    West Brom 0-0 Tottenham

Today marks Jan Vertonghen's 250th appearance in a Spurs shirt, and it's been a quiet one so far for the Belgian.

His team-mates are dominating possession but are struggling to form a clear-cut chance on goal. Not that they'll be worried, there's plenty of time on the clock yet.

  6. Postpublished at 15 mins

    West Brom 0-0 Tottenham

West Brom are starting to settle down, and they win a free-kick just inside the Spurs half after Matt Phillips is hacked down.

It almost falls perfectly into the path for Phillips in the box, but Danny Rose gets in the way and the chance is gone.

  7. Postpublished at 12 mins

    West Brom 0-0 Tottenham

Spurs are well on top here and their hosts aren't seeing much of the ball at all.

Pochettino's men look very relaxed and are simply going through the motions, but they're yet to challenge Ben Foster between the West Brom sticks.

  8. Postpublished at 6 mins

    West Brom 0-0 Tottenham

Spurs have the first corner of the game but before it's taken, referee Mike Jones is among some of the players, indicating that there has perhaps been some early shirt-pulling.

Danny Rose goes short with the corner, and Erik Lamela's attempted cross is deflected out. It's Christian Eriksen with the second corner, he finds Harry Kane who is in a brilliant position but fluffs his shot. Chance.

  9. Postpublished at 4 mins

    West Brom 0-0 Tottenham

It's a cracking atmosphere at The Hawthorns this afternoon, the West Brom fans are in fine voice on what is a huge day for their team.

The Baggies' defence are playing with patience at the back, though Spurs look quick on the ball and it's the visitors with a lot of the early pressure.

It is a measure of the job Darren Moore has done as caretaker boss at West Brom that the Baggies have been beaten to the drop by Stoke.

Moore has won two and drawn two of his four matches in charge, having taken over last month when West Brom were 10 points off safety.

Anything less than a win today will send the home side down but Moore's work has been rewarded with a manager of the month nomination and a sense of stability and unity at The Hawthorns lacking almost all season.

It could have been all over before a ball was even kicked at The Hawthorns today. Had Stoke won against Crystal Palace in the lunchtime kick-off, the Baggies' fate would have been sealed.

Thankfully for West Brom fans, Xherdan Shaqiri's opener for the Potters was cancelled out by two late Palace goals, and Stoke have become the first team to be relegated from the Premier League this season.

    Deep breaths, Baggies fans...

  14. What the managers saidpublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 5 May 2018

West Brom v Tottenham (15:00 BST)

West Brom caretaker boss Darren Moore on his manager of the month nomination: "It's great to be nominated with those calibre of managers, it really, really is - I am honoured.

"But I will share that nomination with everybody here at West Brom. The reason I can sit up here and talk about it is because of the tremendous work everybody has done behind the scenes."

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino: "West Brom are showing great character in their last few games - the capacity to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford and draw with Liverpool. They are doing fantastic in the last few months and of course they have the belief still [that they can stay up].

"We are playing to be in the top four and try to play Champions League next season. I think it will be a massive battle for them, but also for us."

  15. 'West Brom need a miracle'published at 14:50 British Summer Time 5 May 2018

West Brom v Tottenham (15:00 BST)

    Mark Scott
    Match of the Day commentator

"While it would take a remarkable run of results for West Brom to pull off the greatest of great escapes, the mere fact they have even the slightest glimmer of hope is testament to the superb job Darren Moore has done - and with reports claiming the Baggies are looking to appoint a new boss in the next fortnight, his name surely has to be in the frame.

"While West Brom need a miracle, Spurs are comfortably heading for Champions League qualification. Winning their final three matches would guarantee a third-placed finish as well.

"Recent meetings also suggest the game gives Harry Kane a good opportunity to narrow the gap on Mohamed Salah in the race for the Golden Boot."

  16. Head-to-headpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 5 May 2018

West Brom v Tottenham (15:00 BST)

    • West Brom have won just one of their past 16 Premier League meetings with Tottenham (D9, L6). That was 1-0 at White Hart Lane in September 2014.
    • Spurs are unbeaten in seven league visits to The Hawthorns since a 2-0 loss in December 2008 (W3, D4).
    • Albion's only two Premier League home wins over Spurs have been during seasons in which they were relegated: 2005-06 and 2008-09.

West Brom v Tottenham (15:00 BST)

For Tottenham, all eyes are on the small matter of Champions League qualification.

Currently sitting in fourth, five points ahead of Chelsea, Mauricio Pochettino's men can guarantee their place in Europe's leading club competition this weekend, but even if they win today they'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Chelsea welcome Liverpool to Stamford Bridge on Sunday and if the Reds win, Tottenham secure a top-four position - as long as they have beaten the Baggies.

But the good news for the Baggies is their recent form.

They are the only team in the bottom 12 to win more than once in their past five matches - an impressive start from caretaker manager Darren Moore.

Moore has a 50% win record from his four games in charge - and for those stats fans among you, that's more Premier League wins this season than predecessor Alan Pardew, and as many as Tony Pulis before him.
