Scramble! Swansea and Stoke get ready for life in the Championship by playing a hybrid of football, pinball and skittles. Somehow, Stoke get it clear...

Long-ranger from Shaqiri, straight into the tummy of Lukasz Fabianski. Swansea haven't yet looked like a team who need to score a hatful.

    Swansea 0-0 Stoke

Stoke have actually made a reasonable start to this game. Xherdan Shaqiri is buzzing about and they have had some joy down the right. It's goalless between Southampton and Man City, by the way.

  4. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 7 mins

    Swansea 0-0 Stoke

Now then, what's happened to Joe Allen? He's been forced off and is replaced by Darren Fletcher. He gets a decent ovation from both sets of fans.

It took less than a minute for the first chant of "We want Jenkins out" but Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins is not sat in his usual seat in the directors' box to hear it.

There was a more cordial feel to the second chant of the day, with both sets of Swans and Stoke supporters singing together "Going down".

    Swansea 0-0 Stoke

Stoke, by the way, are in all blue. They are attacking the goal to the right as we look on. Their fans are singing "going down, going down". They might have even been joined by the Swansea supporters. These two will probably end up playing each other on the first day of the new Championship season.

Will Swansea fans be listening to radios in order to keep abreast of what's going on at St Mary's?

Do people still do that, or do they just watch their phones?

The players have emerged from the tunnel and are now doing the shakey-hand ritual near the centre circle.

Stoke ready for their final 90 minutes as a Premier League team (for now). Swansea desperately hoping this isn't theirs.

Swansea's Angel Rangel, who is leaving the club, has just been on the pitch with his family, soaking up the appreciation of the crowd. Leon Britton follows him into the Weslh sunshine.

Renato Sanches probably won't get the same sort of farewell.

The Liberty Stadium has been an unhappy place in recent years.

While Swansea City have lurched from one crisis to the next on the pitch, there have been deep divisions off the field since an American consortium bought the club 2016.

The Swansea City Supporters Trust, which owns a 21.1% stake in the club, has called for chairman Huw Jenkins to resign, while fans here today have voiced their anger towards Jenkins, his fellow directors and the club’s American owners.

This afternoon's protests have been low-key so far but the Swans fans are expected to vent their fury during the game.

I was knocked out by Stoke and called them Stokealona for a time. Mark Hughes had a certain style for a certain period. He completely and utterly tried to change what the club was. The problem was Arnautovic wasn’t trustworthy every week, Bojan had a dreadful injury. Affelay has disappeared, Shaqiri is on and off.

They changed Stoke City, everyone knew what they were. Jon Walters was a big one for me to let go. He gave so much. It was like having an extra player in your team.

Even before it has been mathematically confirmed, it seems that the inquest into Swansea's impending demise has already begun, with both manager Carlos Carvalhal and long-serving pair Angel Rangel and Leon Britton among the first to depart.

Huddersfield's point at Chelsea on Wednesday meant all three promoted clubs have now survived, with Swansea (seven years) and opponents Stoke (10 years) left with the realisation that continuous top-flight experience guarantees nothing.

Stoke have also been quick to look at themselves; the owners and experienced players are among those to have already cast their damning verdicts on where it went wrong.

It seems Sunday's match will merely be a 90-minute distraction from some extremely significant soul searching.

It will be the end of an era at the Liberty Stadium today.

While Stoke’s relegation has been confirmed after a decade in the Premier League, Swansea’s seven-season stay in the top flight also looks set to come to an end.

As well as preparing for life in the Championship, the Swans will also say farewell to their longest-serving players, Leon Britton and Angel Rangel.

Legendary midfielder Britton has played for the club at every level from the fourth tier to the Premier League, and the diminutive 35-year-old is expected to make a 537th and final appearance from the bench today before retiring.

Captain and fellow club icon Rangel, meanwhile, will be leaving this summer and could make a 374th and final appearance as a substitute against Stoke.

It promises to be an emotional afternoon in south Wales.

In what looks set to be his final game in charge, Swansea City manager Carlos Carvalhal makes five changes from Tuesday’s 1-0 home defeat against Southampton. Captain Angel Rangel starts a league game for only the second time this season in what will be his 374th and final appearance before leaving the Swans this summer. The other players returning are Mike van der Hoorn, Tom Carroll, Nathan Dyer and Wayne Routledge, while Connor Roberts, Kyle Naughton, Federico Fernandez, Ki Sung-yueng and Sam Clucas drop out.

Swansea XI: Fabianski; Rangel, van der Hoorn, Mawson, Olsson; King, Carroll, Dyer, A. Ayew, Routledge; J. Ayew.

Stoke City boss Paul Lambert makes one change from last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace. Teenage Danish midfielder Lasse Sorensen makes his debut in place of Glen Johnson.

Stoke XI: Butland; Bauer, Shawcross, Zouma, Pieters; Sorensen, Allen, Ndiaye; Shaqiri; Crouch, Diouf.

That they need to beat Stoke and hope Southampton lose to Manchester City is not that much of a stretch - both results are very possible, bordering on likely.

It's the goal difference swing of 10 that is the problem.

Then again, some Stoke fans might not mind Jack Butland chucking a few in if it means Mark Hughes goes down with the Saints.

  19. Postpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 13 May 2018

Stoke are already through the relegation trapdoor, their 10-year stay in the top flight ended by last weekend's home defeat by Crystal Palace.

They will almost certainly be joined by Swansea, unless the Swans can pull of something quite remarkable...

If misery loves company, then Swansea and Stoke must be delighted to see each other today.
