De Bruyne, who is being spread left to right to take the set-pieces, sees his free-kick smack off the head of Armando Cooper and out for a corner.

William: Latest: 23min gone Belgium v Panama Both Sides lacking quality.

Christian: What a challenge by the talismanic Captain! Glad it wasn't an own goal (close enough to make his heart skip a beat no doubt!) but he surely had to make the challenge. THAT'S being courageous in a football game.

    Belgium 0-0 Panama

De Bruyne's corner is easily cleared by the Panama defence but the ball eventually falls to Eden Hazard.

The Blues man goes on a familiar driving run from midfield but his shot slices off his boot and flies embarrassingly wide.

Hazard is in the thick of things and wins a free-kick for his side...

Torres has got an absolutely fantastic touch on it. I don't know how, and I'm not even sure he knows, but Lukaku was waiting to score.

    Belgium 0-0 Panama

Belgium's players swarm around the Panama backline like students around a chicken shop offering free chicken.

This time Romelu Lukaku is inches from getting a connection on a low cross that teases along the six-yard area.

Surely it's a matter of time.

Total lack of concentration from Panama but they've got away with it. They won't have played against teams who think so quickly in those circumstances, but it's all part of the learning process.

  10. YELLOW CARDpublished at 21 mins

    Belgium 0-0 Panama

He loves a card does Zambia's Janny Sikazwe.

The ref shows another yellow, this time to Eric Davis for a foul on Dries Mertens.

Moments later, Panama's defence switches off allowing Mertens to fire in a shot from a Kevin De Bruyne free-kick which, fortunately for the central Americans, hits the side-netting.

Bar those couple of efforts from Carrasco and Mertens, and Torres' backpass error, Panama have coped well.

Belgium, like they have shown in recent tournaments, have been...well... bitty, so far.

Gracenote Sports head of analysis Simon Gleave:

"Belgium's chance of reaching the last 16 increased from 70% to 76% after being drawn against two of the weaker teams from draw pots three and four in December. Results since then, particularly Tunisia's, have reduced Belgium's chances of progress to 71%, almost exactly the same as their biggest group rivals, England."

Panama need to hold onto the ball a bit more, get a feel for it, give your teammates a pass, play some triangles, see what the Belgians have, we know they can attack.

They are giving the ball away far too simply.

Torres knew where Hazard was because he was looking over his shoulder all the time. Totally under hit pass and a let-off for Panama.

  18. Hazard chance!!published at 12 mins

    Belgium 0-0 Panama

Roman Torres gets away with a terrible backpass.

The captain fails to notice that Chelsea's Eden Hazard is lurking and plays the ball back to his keeper Jaime Penedo.

Hazard reads the situation but his tight-angle shot hits the side-netting.

    Lucky Panama.

This could be a difficult game for Panama. Belgium have started on the front foot. The movement of the forward players Mertens and Hazard is superb.
