  1. 'Belgium were unbalanced'published at 15:50 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    Belgium v Panama (16:00 BST)

    Danny Murphy
Former England midfielder on BBC One

Belgium in a way have had too many good players to choose from in the past and they were trying to fit them all in.

They had several players who had proved themselves at centre-back that played at full-back, they chose Marouane Fellani ahead of Mousa Dembele for a while.

They were fitting people in and never found balance. But with their talent they could go far.

  2. 'Belgium can compete with anyone'published at 15:49 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    Belgium v Panama (16:00 BST)

    Cesc Fabregas
Chelsea and Spain midfielder on BBC One

On paper, everyone would agree Belgium can compete with anyone at this World Cup. The question is over their defending and some of the goals they concede.

  3. 'Maybe Panama can spring a surprise'published at 15:47 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    Belgium v Panama (16:00 BST)

    Phil Neville
Former England & Man Utd defender on BBC One

Panama are experienced and they have a manager who has been to three World Cups already.

In every World Cup there is a fairy tale game. Mexico have done that so far but maybe Panama can spring a surprise today.

This match is being played at the 48,000-seater Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi, which was used during the Paralympics and Olympics back in 2014.

It actually isn't footy stadium but will become the home of Russian second division side Dinamo Saint Petersburg after the World Cup.

Fun fact: Saint Petersburg is located 2,355.8 km from Sochi.

  6. 'Belgium missing togetherness'published at 15:43 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    Belgium v Panama (16:00 BST)

    Dion Dublin
Ex-Aston Villa striker on BBC Radio 5 live

We know how good the squad is, can they bring what they have practiced to the big stage, stand up and be counted? We know they have great individuals, as a team they have disappointed.

We want to see flowing football, good finishes, togetherness. that last one, togetherness they are missing that at the moment.

  7. 'Belgium players lacking hunger'published at 15:39 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    Belgium v Panama (16:00 BST)

    Kristof Terreur
Belgian football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

I wish we had more 'Lukakus' in the team, people who struggled for things. When things aren’t going our way a lot of heads gone down, except maybe Kompany who has battled numerous injuries.

It’s the comfort generation; Eden Hazard sometimes lacks that attitude, a bit of hunger. They see it as just football, but it is now or never for this generation, the defence is ageing and there aren’t too many good young defenders coming through.

Rough translation: The time has come for Panama - a historic day for my country and the moment we have all dreamt about becomes a reality - World Cup. Enjoy my people - today I will shout to the world with pride that I am Panamanian and the anthem I will sing with the soul with the flag tattooed on my skin.

Here's more on Panama's national football hero Roman Torres.

BBC's Shamoon Hafez caught up with him in the Seattle Sounders' player's homeland.

    Here's snippet from the interview:

"It means a lot for the people of Panama," says the 32-year-old. "For a long time we have been trying to reach the World Cup.

"Four years ago we were crying with sadness after losing to the United States, this time it was only happiness."

Sweden's Granqvist scores penalty after VAR review

    Sweden defeated South Korea 1-0.

It was pretty unspectacular, in all fairness.

The Koreans looked weak in midfield and they found it hard to break through the sturdy Swedish defence.

Helsingborgs' Andreas Granqvist grabbed the winner from the spot after our friend VAR was called on to review an appeal that was initially waved away.

    Thanks VAR.

You can watch the goal right here, right now. And here's the report.

Sweden and Mexico now lead Group F, with Germany and South Korea vying for the dunce's stool.

    Belgium v Panama (16:00 BST)

Belgium have set up in a 3-4-3 to start with.

Celtic's Dedryck Boyata replaces the injured Vincent Kompany at the back. The Manchester City centre-back has a groin problem and is not expected to return until the final Group G game against England on 28 June.

Dries Mertens, Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard, who is captain, lead a formidable front line.

Panama's Roman Torres - more on him in a bit - and centre-back partner Fidel Escobar will have the tricky task of trying to stop the Belgium attack.

Torres, who plays for MLS side Seattle Sounders has recently recovered from a hamstring problem.

Blas Perez, 37, and who has played for 19 clubs in his career is the lone man in attack.

    Belgium v Panama (16:00 BST)

    Romelu LukakuImage source, .

I am in Sochi for this game and Belgium look pretty tasty at the moment. They are scoring plenty of goals and their only worry is about Vincent Kompany's fitness, because he is such a big influence on the team.

Panama's aim will be to keep Belgium at bay, but I do not see them succeeding for long.

    Prediction: 2-0

Unless you've been frozen in a cryo chamber for more than six months then 19:00 BST 18 June 2018 has long been marked in your respective mobile phone diaries.

Some of you might be celebrating the anniversary of the crowing of Louis II of Italy as the Roman Emperor of Rome in 872, but in the context of the World Cup the reminder is likely to be that England are playing their first match of the tournament, against Tunisia.

The match is live on BBC One, this website and of course BBC 5 live.
