  6. 'Seeing Messi play is a privilege'published at 17:03 British Summer Time 30 June 2018

    France 4-3 Argentina

    Alistair Bruce-Ball
    BBC Radio 5 live

Whenever you get to see Lionel Messi play, it is such a privilege. He has been such a wonderful player and you do feel for him because of what he's given to the game.

But will we ever seen him play for Argentina again?

  7. 'Mbappe was such a threat'published at 17:02 British Summer Time 30 June 2018

    France 4-3 Argentina

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 live

The French defence handled Messi really well. He played in that false nine position but Argentina didn't get him involved enough.

I actually thought Mbappe scored three goals. He was such a threat down the right-hand side. There is a new kid in town and that is Kylian Mbappe.

  8. 'The rest of the team have to show up'published at 16:59 British Summer Time 30 June 2018

    France 4-3 Argentina

    Didier Drogba
Phoenix Rising and former Ivory Coast striker on BBC One

Lionel Messi didn't score but he had a role in two of their goals. The rest of the team has to show up.

  9. 'Mbappe was extraodinary'published at 16:59 British Summer Time 30 June 2018

    France 4-3 Argentina

    Guillem Balague
Spanish football journalist on BBC Radio 5 live

It was the goals, the individual performance of the tournament so far. We saw Mbappe who is on the way to becoming, along with Neymar, ahead of Messi and Ronaldo.

His performance was extraordinary but on the other hand it is the sadness of seeing Messi go home, perhaps the greatest player ever. He knew he couldn't do much with this side.

He knew he couldn't do it all on his own. Argentina have been all about heart and complete disorganisation. France put a gear up and the best team won.

  10. 'France were superior'published at 16:57 British Summer Time 30 June 2018

    France 4-3 Argentina

    Jurgen Klinsmann
Former Germany head coach on BBC One

France were superior in all areas and Argentina never managed to find Messi. He was isolated in the first half, and in the second half, he hardly had a touch.

It was magnificent game of football with two teams going end to end. Mbappe has blistering pace, goals and aggression. He has the lot.

    France 4-3 Argentina

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Kylian Mbappe is saying, 'I'm the new kid on the block.' He was absolutely brilliant for France. What a game.

That opportunity at the death... What a cracking game! I lost count of who scored what. France were the better team and deserved to win, but what a game!

  16. Will Messi retire?published at 16:54 British Summer Time 30 June 2018

    France 4-3 Argentina

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 live

It comes down to Messi's desire to carry on. I'm sure in four years time he'll still be playing top level football if he wants to.
