This is Argentina at the World Cup: Shirts are off, plastic cups and liquids are flying through the air and everyone is jumping into embrace after embrace.

Gabriel Mercado got the telling touch but Lionel Messi was there at the back post seemingly knowing the ball would gravitate towards him.

Ever Banega is booked for fouling Kylian Mbappe. That is now two Argentine midfielders who are suspended for the quarter-finals, which is looking a lot more likely now. Javier Mascherano got his second yellow of the tournament early.

Banega will be the much bigger miss.

I don't know if this is lucky or not? But Argentina won't care. I think it's really clever from Mercado. He deflects it with his left foot. It is brilliant innovation from Mercado. They are in front from nowhere!

We hardly saw Angel di Maria in that first half but the confidence that goal has given him... It's a dangerous situation for Argentina.
