France are superior in terms of personnel and balance but Argentina have two advantages. The first is Messi. The other is that they have a deeper football culture. France expect a game of football but Argentina know it will be a war and are prepared for that.

Messi as a false number nine doesn’t work, and it makes it difficult for Argentina to have a presence in the box, but that strike from Di Maria changes the energy. I wouldn't be surprised if this game doesn't go to extra time.

This is exactly what we want to see in this World Cup when things happen out of nothing. Mbappe's run showed unbelievable speed, agility and power. And then Di Maria, who was having a quiet game, scores a goal with one chance.
Woooooof.

France will be really disappointed they have given the lead away because they were the better team. Pogba was brilliant by stopping Messi getting the ball and driving his side forward. But what a goal by Di Maria to pull his side level.
Angel Di Maria’s goal for Argentina is the first goal France have conceded from outside of the box at the World Cup since 1986 against the USSR.
It is the first goal they have conceded from open play at this summer's World Cup.

Talk about a goal worthy of the occasion. France sat off, Angel di Maria picked his spot and fired his side level before half-time with a delightful goal just when they needed it.
As he spun off to celebrate, fans spilled down the stands above him, rushing to be close.
This one is setting up very nicely indeed. The Argentina fans are raucous.
