Harry Kane would play in any international team in the world. He is underestimated in terms of his link up play and the way he holds up possession for his teammates.

England goalscorer Harry Kane: "These are the moments when you really see the hard work. I'm so proud of the boys and the staff. It's a big night for England.

"Obviously we spoke a lot about being an inexperienced, young team, but we grew a lot out there tonight. Even when we were behind in the penalty shootout we thought 'please, save one Pickers!' And he did. It was nice to get it off our back and we can move forward now.

"As a striker you want to score goals, do your job and do the best for the team. Hopefully it continues. I'm extremely proud of these achievements but I want to do better and do more. I'm looking forward to the next game.

"It will give us huge belief. There's still a long way to go but this will give us more belief than ever and the fans back home. They are enjoying it and we are too."

Gareth Southgate added: "Now we move forward to a big match against Sweden in a game the world would expect us to win, but it's a tough three-day turnaround and our record against them is one we have to put right.

"Today was a special night for every Englishman. The fans that were here were outnumbered but I'm delighted for them, and everyone at home."

Colombia manager Jose Pekerman on his players fouling England's team: "I think that people in England or others should not think of Colombia players like this. It's a very competitive game.

"England have a great weapon in the air. Players fall in the box. They collide and fall. It's hurtful. You have to try and stand in the shoes of the players. They are subject to situations which shouldn't be present in football.

"These interruptions are bad. It's okay, but when there are so many fouls and interruptions that's not good. We have to find the right balance so both teams can play with the same intentions.

"We should not only look to Colombia but also England's players. I think in the next match England will be more careful. Today we were on the receiving end of this. It's been so obvious, too obvious."

You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow, This opportunity comes once in a lifetime You better...

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live, Gareth Southgate said: "I am so pleased for everybody involved. We deserved to win and we played really well in a big game under pressure. It couldn't have been a crueler blow on the final whistle, but we kept our discipline under extreme provocation and we kept our shape. If you could choose a way to win, that would be it, but you wouldn't choose the process."

Asked about the provocation, Southgate said: "I'm not bothered now, that's for them to reflect on. We weren't perfect but generally we kept our discipline really well.

"Our list of five takers altered because of the changes we made but we had some young players who showed resilience under pressure. We have practiced enough, we have been through a process and we were in control of that. I felt so confident in the players, even after the first one was saved, because we knew we would save one of theirs."

Top result but still concerned that we've only scored one non-fluke goal from open play. Hope Southgate takes a positive approach against Sweden and starts Vardy, thought he really stretched Colombia's defence when he came on. #ItsComingHome

    Chris from Manchester

Love the character from these boys...fresh faces seem to have brought a fresh attitude. For all our attacking intent though how many goals have we scored from open play? I fear Sweden will prove even tougher to break down. Good if I'm wrong though!

    Chris

Actually stayed back at work so I didn't miss a single thing, what an absolute fantastic win!! Local lad Jordan is our hero tonight!!

Colin: Let's not forget Rashford's penalty. For the young man to step up 2nd takes guts and he did it with great confidence.

Millen: Lips split in half, blood everywhere from biting it, throat is sore, voice has gone. Blood pressure high...family think I'm mental. England tried to kill me tonight. No feeling like that though!

Stevie: I can now relax and watch it all again on MOTD and enjoy it this time round
