    France 1-1 Croatia

I always feel you need both teams to score to have a good final and that is exactly where we are.

Only two of the last eight World Cup finals have seen both teams score, with both involving France (2006 and 2018).

What a goal that is. It is a well-worked free-kick.

There was a bit of a scramble, France should have dealt with it better, but give Perisic credit.

    Lloris had no chance.

    Ivan Perisic

ANOTHER goal from a set-piece and Croatia are level! Well deserved too.

Ivan Perisic has shown in Russia just what a big game player he is and he flashes Croatia level with a wand of a left foot. The free-kick comes in, is nodded down, it bounces around just inside the area and Perisic then takes a composed right-footed touch to bring the ball into his arc and then batters home left-footed, via a slight deflection.

From about 16 yards, screamed past Hugo Lloris. His third of the tournament...

France will slow the game down now, will manage the game and play on the counter-attack.

Mbappe has been very disappointing so far. He has lost the ball every time he has had it.

Whenever France get the ball at the back, Ivan Rakitic is pushing on alongside Mario Mandzukic to make a front four and stop France from playing out.

Now then, a chance for Croatia to break, Ivan Perisic picks up the ball and runs over halfway, Ngolo Kante trips him and goes down. Booking.

We wanted a great final to make this a great World Cup and we haven't had one so far. France lead and look rigid as anything at the back. But this is not the sparkling, attacking football that you feel like they could deliver.

It's a scruffy spell of play now, Ivan Rakitic volleying over on the stretch after more pushing and shoving while a set-piece comes in.

Ooohh he had to get that right! France now so dangerous, they lead and are more than happy to sit in and break. One good pass sends Kylian Mbappe clear and he nearly is until Domagoj Vida slides in brilliantly.

France have struck after their first couple of moments of threat when they actually got Kylian Mbappe into the game. Touch of good fortune but France will take that all day long.

Croatia have shown superb spirit throughout this World Cup - as England can testify - so plenty of time for them yet.

The ball comes in and Croatia are so deep. It comes off Mario Mandzukic who rises highest, and any touch from there, it's in the back of the net. They have got to be at least 10 yards further up. It is totally against the run of play but Croatia have come from behind before.

I am so annoyed. It was never, ever a free-kick. Griezmann hardly got touched. He has cheated to get the free-kick.

The World Cup of dead balls. Such a soft goal, and very harsh on Croatia, as the rain starts to fall. They have gone behind in every knockout game so far and managed OK. Free-kick of their own now.

GOAL - France 1-0 Croatiapublished at 19 mins

    Mario Mandzukic (OG)

I was just about to say that France scored from a very similar position through Raphael Varane, and they score again!

Antoine Griezmann's ball in is superb, left-footed and flat, Varane is close to winning it but instead it's England's nemesis, Mario Mandzukic, who flicks a header into the top corner of his own net.

Completely and utterly against the run of play but France lead in the World Cup final!
