FT: Rotherham 2-0 Scunthorpe (4-2 agg)

Rotherham manager Paul Warne told Sky Sports:

"It was a tense game I thought, Scunny were excellent and they played the pressure and conditions better than us really.

"They created loads of chances and my goalkeeper had to get us out of jail a couple of times.

"But we got a coupe of goals and the lads dug it out in the end.

"It was a really good effort from everybody and you can hear from the fans on the pitch what it means to people."

Apparently he went to the cinema this morning to watch Deadpool 2 and played squash this afternoon to prepare for tonight's game....

Rotherham goalscorer Will Vaulks told Sky Sports:

"We were poor first half, to be honest, but the goal came at a great time, Woody's great attacking set-pieces.

"It's nice to get the second goal, because it was getting stressful at that time, they were throwing everything at us.

    "It's a great win, I'm buzzing.

"It's always nice to have that two-goal advantage, at one it's always a bit nervy.

"I can't remember the goal if I'm honest, I just remember hearing it hit the back of the net.

"Hopefully we've given Rotherham fans and the people here a little bit to cheer about."

So it's Rotherham who will face Shrewsbury at Wembley on Sunday week for a place in the Championship.

Richard Wood's header in first-half stoppage time and Will Vaulks' second-half strike from close range are enough to send the Millers through against a Scunthorpe side who played the last 20-or-so minutes with 10 men after Rory McArdle was sent off.

    Rotherham 2-0 Scunthorpe (4-2 agg)

Surely that's it for Scunthorpe now? The Rotherham fans are on the edge of the pitch as they prepare to run on and celebrate.

What a turnaround for a side that had their lowest-ever points total when they were relegated from the second tier just a year ago.

Scunny have a free-kick in a dangerous area, about 25 yards out. Josh Morris over it.....

Seven minutes of stoppage time - can Scunthorpe create some very late drama or will Rotherham be walking down Wembley Way?

Where did they get seven minutes from?

    Rotherham 2-0 Scunthorpe (4-2 agg)

Scunthorpe now sending the ball up long as they try in vain the get a goal.

They do win a corner as Rotherham make their final change - Joe Newell is replaced by fellow wide man Anthony Forde.

    Rotherham 2-0 Scunthorpe (4-2 agg)

Rotherham don't quite know what to do here. A man up after Rory McArdle's red card, they don't want to commit players forward, yet have a lot of possession in midfield. What to do?

Fantastic save from Marek Rodek. Duane Holmes with a great bit of skill to create the angle to shoot and Rotherham's keeper palms the ball away.

    Rotherham 2-0 Scunthorpe (4-2 agg)

Joe Newell goes close for Rotherham. A nice run down the left - and quick change of pace to beat the defender - but his shot hits the side-netting.

Final change for Scunthorpe and a final roll of the dice. Striker Tom Hopper comes on for defensive midfielder Ryan Yates.

    Rotherham 2-0 Scunthorpe (4-2 agg)

Great save by Rory Watson to keep Scunthorpe in it. The 22-year-old reserve keeper makes a great stop at close range from Jon Taylor at his near post.

Semi Ajayi heads over from the resulting corner.

Surely with Scunthorpe down to 10 men they can't get back into this now?

  19. RED CARD (McArdle)published at 77 mins
