Tierney's still getting freed up with every opportunity. A better ball in there and Dembele has an empty net to tap into.

Celtic’s Cup record under Brendan Rodgers coming into this final was played 17, won 17, goals for 58, goals against 6. That’s got even better now that they are 2-0 ahead and cruising against Motherwell. Callum McGregor has been outstanding. An absolutely wonderful footballer who is having a big impact on the big stage yet again. Motherwell are getting narky now. Some bad tackles going in on Kieran Tierney. Impossible to see a way back for them.

  7. Celtic respondpublished at 50 mins

    Celtic 2-0 Motherwell

Stung by those early second-half chances for Motherwell, Celtic respond. Good work by James Forrest sees the ball played wide for Kieran Tierney, whose low cross looks likely to be fired home by Moussa Dembele, but Motherwell repel the danger.

  8. GREAT SAVE!published at 47 mins

    Celtic 2-0 Motherwell

Much better from Motherwell. Striker Curtis Main does well to shield the ball from Dedryk Boyata before firing a shot at goal but it's brilliantly tipped over the bar by Craig Gordon.

Stephen Robinson's side come roaring forward moments later, with Allan Campbell testing Gordon from distance.

Celtic remain two goals to the good but the Steelmen are beginning to flex their muscles.

Motherwell's strength comes from their collective group and making sure they're difficult to break down, but that's where Celtic's quality has taken over. They've pushed them into areas they don't want to go into. Motherwell need to get tighter man to man and push the team 20 yards further up the park. It's not an easy task though

"When they go behind in games, there's an element of narkiness that goes into their play. They want to curb that because it could turn into an embarrassing day from them if they don't.

"They're going to need to find a goal from somewhere - I don't know where, because Celtic have been dominant."

  12. Can Rodgers go where Stein and Smith failed to tread?published at 15:56

    HT: Celtic 2-0 Motherwell

As things stand, Celtic are 45 minutes from becoming the first side ever to win all of Scotland's three major domestic trophies - the league title, the League Cup, and the Scottish Cup - in successive seasons, the so-called 'double Treble'.

Two teams have previously come close to achieving the feat.

Jock Stein's Celtic, with six Lisbon Lions in their line-up, faltered at the final hurdle in 1970, losing 3-1 in the Scottish Cup final to an Aberdeen team that finished eighth in the league.

Walter Smith's Rangers, 12 months after almost reaching the European Cup final, succumbed 1-0 to Dundee United - who finished sixth in the league - in the 1994 final, having won the five previous domestic trophies.

  13. 'Put him in England's Premier League and McGregor would fly'published at 15:54

    HT: Celtic 2-0 Motherwell

    Tom English
    Chief sports writer, BBC Scotland

"They had a sticky first 10 minutes, Motherwell were strong, but after that it's been Celtic and only Celtic.

"Awful lot of talk of Dembele and Tierney - Callum McGregor is a terrific footballer. He doesn't get the kind of accolades that he should. He's maybe in Tierney, Brown, Dembele's shadow, but put him down in the [English] Premier League and he would fly.

"The last 10 minutes there, it now looks like Motherwell are taking some bodies. They're going for Tierney, they've put in a few hard ones on him, and I hope this doesn't get unpleasant."
