Sree: Sterling and Sane both had a very similar season.. great one at that.. can you imagine England going to WC without Sterling?? Just goes on to show how ahead Germany are at the moment.. you could call anyone from the bench and expect they’ll make a difference.

Switzerland are still 1-0 up against Japan - while earlier on Karim Ansarifard scored a late winner as Iran beat Lithuania 1-0.

That was a weird first half - Germany were dominant for about 35 minutes but Saudi Arabia had a little spell where they had a few chances.

    Omar Hawsawi own goal

Germany double their lead and it's an own goal.

Marco Reus sends Timo Werner free down the left and his cross is almost turned in by Thomas Muller. The German can't quite finish however and defender Omar Hawsawi does the work for him.

  7. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 42 mins

Germany have the ball in the back of the net again and it's disallowed for an offside call against Timo Werner, before he crossed and Marco Reus finished.

Not sure Werner was offside though...

Saudi Arabia are on top right now and Salem Al-Dawsari cuts in from the left before smashing another effort over the crossbar. Very promising from Juan Antonio Pizzi's side.

Another chance for Saudi Arabia but Mats Hummels puts Fahad Al-Muwallad off sufficiently from Salem Al-Dawsari's cross.

And suddenly Saudi Arabia are almost level as Fahad Al-Muwallad, who really is their talisman up front, rifles a shot just wide from outside hte box. Manuel Neuer was scrambling.

    Germany 1-0 Saudi Arabia

More good play from Saudi Arabia and Fahad Al-Muwallad - who are growing into this game - but Germany's centre-backs are equal to the challenge so far.

From nowhere Saudi Arabia almost have a chance but Mats Hummels slide tackles Fahad Al-Muwallad before the ex-Levante loanee can shoot.

Another Germany chance. Timo Werner finds Marco Reus - he picks out Thomas Muller, who flicks the ball back to Werner and the youngster heads wide.

    Germany 1-0 Saudi Arabia

Marco Reus is having an excellent game - he could bang at this World Cup if he can keep fit.

His through ball to Sami Khedira is wonderful, but the assistant referee's flag goes up. Wrongly in my opinion, I think the midfielder was onside.

Jonny Vegas: media and fans aren't really concerned about the 5 games without a win. I guess after 12 years as head coach and his track record, we all trust Jogi knows what he is doing.

Manuel Neuer comes flying out of his box to head the ball to Jerome Boateng. It's like the Germany keeper has never been away.

Joshua Kimmich's cross from the right loops up in the air and almost dips under the crossbar, but it's out for a goal-kick.

He is capable of scoring from there.

George Shiel: Given that we'll almost certainly be meeting Poland in the group stage (plus the fact that my wife is Polish) tonight will be a good chance to see what they can do. I reckon they'll beat Chile 2-0.

That game is at 19:45 BST
