  1. YELLOW CARDpublished at 43 mins

    Reading 0-0 Derby County

It's not been a bad-tempered game but now we're up to four bookings as Derby midfielder Craig Bryson is shown a yellow card for a high challenge on Liam Kelly as they chased down Rams keeper Scott Carson's throw out.

  2. Postpublished at 42 mins

    Reading 0-0 Derby County

That's a smart save from Scott Carson at his near post to push Liam Kelly's low shot behind for a corner.

The Derby keeper is called into action immediately again as he dives to his right to stop Tiago Ilori's header.

  3. Postpublished at 40 mins

    Reading 0-0 Derby County

Five minutes to go before the break.

Reading boss Paul Clement will be pleased with what he has seen from his side so far but disappointed that they're not in front.

  4. YELLOW CARDpublished at 37 mins

    Reading 0-0 Derby County

And now Reading hit the front in the card stakes as Liam Kelly sees yellow for bringing down Derby's Mason Mount. It's just gone a bit scrappy.

  5. YELLOW CARDpublished at 36 mins

    Reading 0-0 Derby County

We're level on the scoreboard and now level on the card count as well.

Reading debutant David Meyler joins Derby's Andre Wisdom in the book for a late challenge on Craig Bryson.

  6. Postpublished at 34 mins

    Reading 0-0 Derby

Reading are offering a threat every time they get the chance to break.

Paul McShane cuts out Mason Mount's pass, Liam Kelly picks up the loose ball and sends Mo Barrow racing forward once again.

Not for the first time, that final ball is lacking though as the winger's cross is just too far in front of John Swift.

I wonder what Frank Lampard is making of his first taste of management so far?

His Rams side picked up some impressive results in pre-season, while Reading didn't win.

Not that you'd be able to tell from this game so far as the Royals' first corner of the game comes to nothing.

"Boring, boring Derby!" is the chant that goes up from a large section of the Reading fans.

Cast your mind back in the not so distant past to when Jaap Stam was in charge of the Royals....

This pattern of lots of the ball, but with little to show for it that Derby have so far displayed is almost like watching that Stam side again here.

Derby have had 74% of the possession so far but have had little to show for it.

  9. Postpublished at 22 mins

    Reading 0-0 Derby County

That foul on Mo Barrow handed Reading a free-kick in a dangerous area wide on their left.

Liam Kelly swings the ball in but Scott Carson acts decisively to punch well clear. Excellent goalkeeping.

  10. YELLOW CARDpublished at 21 mins

    Reading 0-0 Derby County

And there's the first booking of the season - and it goes to Derby's Andre Wisdom.

The Rams full-back is badly caught out for pace by Mo Barrow and can only bring the flying winger down.

    Reading 0-0 Derby County

Wasteful from Reading and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson once again.

Richard Keogh carelessly gifts the Royals possession but the big striker badly overhits his pass to the onrushing John Swift and the chance disappears.

A penny for Ryan Giggs' thoughts so far? Derby have enjoyed plenty of possession in these early stages but it is Reading who have carried the greater threat.

The Rams are certainly knocking the ball around nicely but a blue and white hooped shirt closes in at every opportunity.

Unfortunately for Giggs, neither Harry Wilson nor Tom Lawrence, who will both be in the Wales reckoning have made an impact yet.

A nervy and at times frenetic start this for Derby with Reading having the two clearest chances of the opening 10 minutes.

A few nervous touches here and there from certain players might have been punished by some better execution by Jon Dadi Bodvarsson for the hosts.

Frank Lampard has stood on the edge of his technical area with hands in pockets for the most part so far, but he's probably less than comfortable with how his side have started.

  14. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Reading 0-0 Derby County

Respite for Derby as they win the first corner of the game. The away fans roar their side on - but then the delivery fails to beat the first man. Frustrating.

  15. Postpublished at 8 mins

    Reading 0-0 Derby County

This has been a bright start from Reading!

Mo Barrow races clear down the left and when his dangerous cross is only half-cleared by Max Lowe, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson can only sidefoot straight at Scott Carson with his the follow-up from the edge of the box.

A mistake from Richard Keogh gifts Reading the first opening of the game.

The defender passes blind straight to John Swift, who races forward and plays in Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, whose poked effort is well saved by the onrushing Scott Carson.

The Iceland striker really should have done better.

  17. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Reading 0-0 Derby County

Reading are keenly pressing Derby whenever the Rams have possession.

So far the visitors have barely been out of their own half as they try to play out from the back.

Reading have had two free-kicks but both were comfortably defended.

  18. Postpublished at 1 min

    Reading 0-0 Derby County

Almost a nightmare start for Frank Lampard as his side gift Reading possession and the home side swarm forward, but a defender is there in the right place at the right time to cut out Mo Barrow's low cross.

Football is well and truly back.

David Nugent kicks off for Derby, wearing a very dark blue kit with lime green trim, and the 2018-19 season is under way.

For those of you who care, Frank Lampard has opted for a suit rather than a tracksuit in the dug-out. There's no sign of a waistcoat though.

"New season, clean slate" are the words on a banner held up by a section of Reading supporters behind one of the goals before kick-off.

That's the glory of the opening weekend of the season, everyone starts on 0 points and it's all to play for.

Can the Royals put their miserable 2017-18 campaign behind them or will this be the night of Frank Lampard on his managerial debut?
