Well that was entertaining! Boro absolutely throwing everything at West Brom and finally rewarded with three points through a last-minute winner.

West Brom will be disappointed, but their 7-1 win against QPR last weekend shows they have the quality to challenge in this division.

For Middlesbrough, however, they are now three points clear at the top of the Championship. It's early days, but they are looking particularly good.

Middlesbrough only had 38% possession in that game but won 10 corners and had 18 shots on goal.

Middlesbrough midfielder Jonny Howson told Sky Sports:

"We saw it first game of the season against Millwall, which is a tough place to go. We got two late goals and we did that again tonight.

"Another clean sheet gives us a basis. In this league you've got grind out results and we've done that today.

"It's a long and hard season, we've had a good start but there's a long way to go. We have to take it one game at a time.

"We've had a good start but we have to keep going, now."

Middlesbrough goalscorer Daniel Ayala told Sky Sports:

"We work hard on set pieces. We believe we can score at any time so we are happy.

"It's hard work on the training ground. The work we put in shows on the pitch."

That's it, all over. And what a win that is for Middlesbrough. They go top thanks to Daniel Ayala's late strike.

West Brom, off the back of battering QPR 7-1, just haven't looked up for this tonight.

Boro have taken the game to Albion and, to their credit, they've been richly rewarded with all three points.

That goal is sending Middlesbrough top, for what it's worth. Tony Pulis is in raptures, Darren Moore looks stunned.

The Boro fans are absolutely joyous.

Time is ticking away here at the Riverside and it's seeming more and more unlikely that we're going to see a goal in this game.

Although now I've said that, I imagine we'll have about three goals in two minutes or something daft.

Another Middlesbrough substitution sees Martin Braithwaite replaced by Paddy McNair.

Jake Livermore plays a short, low ball to force Middlesbrough into giving away a corner.

Jay Rodriguez wrong foots the Boro defence to shoot unopposed but it's blocked, then Chris Brunt fires a rebounded shot over the crossbar.

West Brom also make a chance as Dwight Gayle is hauled off in favour of Hal Robson-Kanu.

Boro boy Jordan Hugill comes on for Britt Assombalonga.

Mo Besic finds a pathway through to the West Brom box and attempts a low shot which is blocked by three Albion defenders.

Kyle Bartley attempts a cross-field pass to Matt Phillips but he misjudges it and the ball sails away for a Boro throw-in.

Jay Rodriguez plays a through ball to Dwight Gayle who's deep into the Middlesbrough box but his back heel one-two goes out.

Stewart Downing is replaced by Mo Besic, who is making his first appearance since rejoining Middlesbrough on loan from Everton earlier this week.

Just under 20 minutes to play. Can either side nick a late winner?

Middlesbrough win another corner, their tenth of the game so far, but West Brom valiantly clear it away once more.

This time Boro win a throw-in but Kyle Bartley gallops upfield with the ball and is brought down by Ryan Shotton, who goes into the book.

At the other end, Matt Phillips is forced to head away a long ball just before Boro forward Martin Braithwaite attempted to volley home.

Meanwhile, West Brom make two changes as Tosin Adarabioyo comes on for Craig Dawson while James Morrison replaces Harvey Barnes.

Harvey Barnes is playing havoc on the left wing and he lofts a curling shot from a tight angle and wins West Brom a corner.

Darren Randolph gets a fist to it and Boro win back possession.
