Arsenal look much better already in the second half. They are attacking with more intensity and flair.

This time the attack is broken down after more promising play down the right-hand side through Reiss Nelson.

But it's only cleared as far as the halfway line and Arsenal will go again.

Hector Bellerin gives away a free-kick on the left-hand side and it's in a good position for Atletico.

Angel Correa's whipped delivery is a dangerous one but it just skims the head of Francisco Montero and goes out for a goalkick.

I mean, he shares the same first name as Emile Heskey. He's clearly going to be special.

It's his birthday on Saturday. Not a bad present to take home eh?

Jan Oblak has been replaced by Antonio Adan. That's good news for Arsenal as the goalkeeper made three decent stops in the first half.

Petr Cech also replaces Berd Leno.

That's a week after Arsenal's league opener against Manchester City on August 12.

I have been fairly pleased with Arsenal's Matteo Guendouzi in midfield. He looks composed on the ball and has been running the show - though he has yet to really be tested.

Unai Emery made him his fifth signing of the summer - from Lorient for an undisclosed fee.

The 19-year-old, who started his career in Paris St-Germain's academy, joined Ligue 2 side Lorient in 2014 and made his first-team debut aged 17 in 2016.

Arsenal have had seven shots, three corners, seven crosses into the box, made almost twice as many passes as Atletico and had 65% possession but still they trail at the break.

And that's the last action of the first half. Plenty of chances towards the end but Arsenal's lack of ruthlessness may have proven costly.

Matteo Guendouzi continues to shield the ball well in midfield and he wins a free kick in Arsenal's half as Joaquin Munoz shoves him over unceremoniously.

Arsenal look to bounce back immediately as Emile Smith-Rowe wins a freekick on the edge of the box.

It ends in a corner but Rob Holding's header bounces narrowly wide of the right-hand post.

The youngsters are still performing well for Arsenal. Emile Smith-Rowe plays it into Alexandre Lacazette but the striker's effort from a tight angle is saved.

Reiss Nelson then has a crack on his right foot from close range but blasts it over the bar. That was a chance!

Thomas Partey tries to play a through ball, looking for another dangerous run from Kevin Gameiro but the Atletico striker is caught offside.
