According to Palace's website, Wilfired Zaha misses today's game because he 'strained an abductor muscle in the latter stages of training yesterday'.

  2. How about Southampton?published at 14:42 British Summer Time 1 September 2018

Southampton travel to Selhurst Park seeking their first league win of the season, as a goalless draw with Burnley has been followed by consecutive 2-1 defeats - by Everton then Leicester.

Harry Maguire’s stoppage-time winner for Leicester last weekend leaves the Saints 17th in the, albeit fledgling, league table. That was also their final position of last season as they hovered precariously above the drop zone.

But we'll find out this afternoon whether Charlie Austin's 88th-minute winner on Tuesday can be the breakthrough Mark Hughes' men needed to kick-start their campaign.

  3. How are Palace getting on?published at 14:38 British Summer Time 1 September 2018

Crystal Palace v Southampton (15:00 BST)

Crystal Palace seemed to have left the demons of last season’s dreadful start, when they were pointless and goalless after seven league games, safely behind them as they began the campaign with a comfortable opening-weekend victory over newly promoted Fulham.

However, consecutive defeats at the hands of Liverpool and, most recently, Watford have stalled what appeared an encouraging start.

They had, though, gone unbeaten in seven previous to that and, with a run of good fixtures to come, the Eagles will only be looking forward as the Saints march into town.

  4. Zaha absent for Palacepublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 1 September 2018

Crystal Palace v Southampton (15:00 BST)

The big team news of the Saturday afternoon fixtures, not just here, is that Wilfried Zaha, Crystal Palace's now record Premier League goalscorer, is not available to face Southampton.

The 25-year-old was left out of the Ivory Coast's squad this week before their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda 'for personal reasons'.

Summer signing Jordan Ayew makes his debut for the Eagles after his move from Swansea as Aaron Wan-Bissaka returns to the starting XI following suspension.

Crystal Palace XI: Hennessey, Wan-Bissaka, Kelly, Sakho, van Aanholt, Townsend, Milivojevic, McArthur, Schlupp, Benteke, Ayew.

Visitors Southampton are unchanged from last weekend's defeat by Leicester, as striker Danny Ings passed a late fitness test for the Saints.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is also available following his red card against Leicester last weekend, having served his one-match suspension in Southampton's Carabao Cup victory over Brighton.

Southampton XI: McCarthy, Soares, Vestergaard, Hoedt, Betrand, Elyounoussi, Lemina, Hojbjerg, Redmond, Long, Ings.

Crystal Palace v Souhampton (15:00 BST)

Both Crystal Palace and Southampton managed to bounce back from consecutive league defeats to progress to the third round of the Carabao Cup in midweek - each recording a welcome 1-0 victory on Tuesday.

Palace were rewarded for their win over Swansea with a third-round tie at West Brom, while Southampton recorded a first victory of the season - against Brighton - to set up a match against Everton.

But now the focus shifts to correcting rather indifferent starts to the 2018-19 Premier League campaign...
