He controls a long ball to his feet like it's nothing, then tees up a shot from an acute angle which sails narrowly wide of the mark.

Cardiff City midfielder Junior Hoilett is down and in some discomfort after N'Golo Kante catches him with his boot.

Play restarts after a short delay and there's jeers as Cardiff kick the free-kick that follows out of play.

In either box, Chelsea need to stand up and be counted. In the middle of the park Cardiff will let you have it. In either box they fight tooth and nail. Sol Bamba puts his body on the line to score.

At the other end, Chelsea are throwing everything at Cardiff now to level it up.

Mateo Kovacic is sent clean through on goal by an Olivier Giroud backheel and forces Bluebirds goalkeeper Neil Etheridge off his line to save at the last minute.

That should be 1-0 to Cardiff City!

Sol Bamba rises high to latch on to an inswinging corner. He beats David Luiz to the ball but the end product is sorely lacking.

The Bluebirds defender heads downwards and it bounces out of play.

Sumptuous play from Chelsea down the left flank and Marcos Alonso does well to beat his marker and feed in towards Olivier Giroud.

However, the Frenchman fires wide of the mark from close range.

Good stuff from the hosts, nonetheless.

First real chance of the game goes to Chelsea.

Host captain Cesar Azpilicueta sends a neat cross into the box towards Olivier Giroud, who heads over the crossbar.

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga can't quite keep a wayward ball from going out for a corner and Cardiff win the first set-piece of the game.

It sails into the box and the hosts get it away with ease.

Cardiff had positives from the Arsenal game before the international break. They tried to go for it and it was an entertaining game.

That's what fans want to see. In the Premier League they want them to have a go. They know it will be a struggle against an in-form Chelsea side, but the game against Arsenal gave them hope.
