Well, that is that. No goals at St Mary's.

And it's now no win for Newcastle 10 games into the Premier League season.

It's also no win now in six for Southampton who missed so many glorious chances - especially in the closing stages - to take all three points.

It's certainly looking like a tricky season for both these sides.

I have absolutely no idea how Southampton haven't managed to score in the closing stages.

Jack Stephens is inches away from meeting James Ward-Prowse's lofted free-kick, but he just can't quite meet it just metres out from goal.

That was another excellent opportunity for Southampton to take all three points.

Newcastle let off the hook for now.

That was THE chance.

Cedric Soares crosses for Shane Long who collects the ball just inside the penalty area, but Long - in space - drags his shot narrowly wide of the goal.

Head in hands for Mark hughes.

Five minutes added on.

A corner for Southampton, James Ward-Prowse whips it in but it's comfortable for Martin Dubravka once again.

Nathan Redmond drives forward now for Southampton.

He finds Danny Ings who tees up Mario Lemina for an effort from the edge of the area, but Lemina's effort is just too high.

Southampton are showing more urgency going forward now, sensing they could edge a vital three points here.

James Ward-Prowse is on for Southampton now, replacing Oriol Romeu.

Beansy: Got to agree with some of the other texters - I think Rafa has taken us as far as he can. His Tyne has passed. Needs to go before he sours the memories.

Southampton are heading for five games without a goal in the league, while Newcastle are going to be without a win after 10 games as it stands.

Surely both sides need to make a bit of a go of this in the closing stages - but there's not much urgency at present.

Salomon Rondon is being summoned from the bench by Rafael Benitez.

Ayoze Perez has received a knock and makes way for the returning Rondon.

Can he have an impact in the final 20 minutes here?

Mohamed Elyounoussi's cross finds Nathan Redmond at the back post, who fires a shot goal-bound but Paul Dummett is there to get his body in the way.

The net might have rippled had Dummett been a second too late to meet that one.

Charlie Austin is coming off now - he hasn't been moving well since that clash with the Newcastle goalkeeper.

Manolo Gabbiadini comes on in his place.

Danny Ings weaves his way into the area but sees his effort blocked by Federico Fernandez before it can cause any damage.

It heads out for a corner but Yoshinori Muto is back to win a free-kick for his side.

Charlie Austin is down now though - it looks like he might be feeling the effects of that earlier clash with Martin Dubravka.

Danger in the Southampton box quickly turns to drama in the Newcastle area, as Charlie Austin sticks the ball in the back of the net - but only after fouling Martin Dubravka who did have the ball safely in his hands before Austin's barge.

The second half has carried on pretty much exactly how the first half ended, with some half-chances broken up by scrappy periods of play.

Newcastle's Jonjo Shelvey makes space for a shot from distance but that one is still travelling upwards.

Danny Ings gets himself into a great position for a shot following a lovely pass from Ryan Bertrand but, unfortunately, he runs into team-mate Charlie Austin who does Newcastle's defending for them.

A good break from Southampton.

Charlie Austin tries to lay Nathan Redmond off for a shot but Jamaal Lascelles is there to get rid of the danger.
