Summary

  • Win would take Man City five points clear at top

  • Bournemouth have lost three games in a row

  1. CLOSE!published at 42 mins

    Man City 1-0 Bournemouth

Another decent chance this! Ryan Fraser's cross finds Joshua King in the box, it's bouncing slightly awkwardly but he still manages a decent shot that is blocked by Nicolas Otamendi.

City then counter at breakneck speed through Raheem Sterling, whose pass for Gabriel Jesus is just cut out by Tyrone Mings - a vital interception.

That was an excellent cross from Josh King and the reaction from Callum Wilson as the move broke down suggested he thought he could have done better with it.

It has brought a song from the Bournemouth support anyway.

They have been pretty quiet since the goal.

  3. CLOSE!published at 39 mins

    Man City 1-0 Bournemouth

Lovely play from Bournemouth. Charlie Daniels' chip is perfect down the line, Joshua King cuts inside and drifts a tricky cross up for Callum Wilson.

It's arching towards him, but not quite close enough as the England striker struggles to connect with his outstretched boot. Ederson can only squirm it away. Any contact would have surely beaten the keeper.

  4. Postpublished at 35 mins

    Man City 1-0 Bournemouth

Raheem Sterling swirls in a cross that drifts over Asmir Begovic, his covering defender and the head of Gabriel Jesus, Simon Francis stepping in to clear.

A reminder of City's danger - all they need is an extra yard.

  5. 'A little bit sloppy'published at 15:33 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2018

    Manchester City 1-0 Bournemouth

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

In the last two or three minutes City have just given the ball away, a little bit sloppy - Sterling, Silva, Laporte, giving it away cheaply. The ones coming into the team that we wondered if they could step up and play at this level have been brilliant with the desire to play in this team. When they step on to the field they are trying to show the manager they deserve to be out there.

    Man City 1-0 Bournemouth

Both sides a little sloppy with the ball these past few passages. Callum Wilson mis-reads a pass into him from Simon Francis, had he stayed where he was Ryan Fraser might have been clear on the overlap.

Bournemouth certainly cannot afford much more than that.

  7. Postpublished at 30 mins

    Man City 1-0 Bournemouth

Gabriel Jesus wants to do too much as he nicks a smart pass intended for Ilkay Gundogan and mis-controls in the box. Bournemouth lose possession in turn thanks to a very smart Bernardo Silva stretching interception.

  8. Spotlight on Gabriel Jesuspublished at 15:29 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2018

Gabriel Jesus could do with a big performance today.

Twelve months ago, it seemed Pep Guardiola might prefer Jesus to Sergio Aguero.

    That's all changed though.

Now Jesus is viewed very much as a back-up front-man.

He has not scored, not completed the full 90 minutes in the Premier League since the 6-1 defeat of Huddersfield on 19 August.

    Man City 1-0 Bournemouth

Charlie Daniels strides on as Bernardo Silva slips up. Ryan Fraser is the target once more on the left but Danilo is growing wise to it and gets in to block.

Lewis Cook floats in a lofted pass out up to Simon Francis inside the box - who is flagged for offside in an incorrect decision. It looked like City were set to clear his knockdown in any case.

    Manchester City 1-0 Bournemouth

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

It has become a real game of cat and mouse in the wide areas: Raheem Sterling is trying to get in little bits of space, Daniels is trying to get forward and there is a concern for Bournemouth on who should be picking up who. There is a real intelligence from the Manchester City players, always on the half turn and ready to move.

Positive signs in isolation I should say. The overall flavour is one of pure Manchester City dominance. Gabriel Jesus is found at the end of a slick move in the box and shapes to shoot a strike blocked by Nathan Ake's head.

Danilo has an effort from range on his wrong left foot blocked. Fernandinho finds Jesus with a wonderful chipped through ball but the Brazilian is offside on the far side, with the whole back line to look across.

Sulaimon Adelekan: We say so much about Manchester City's attacking players but we don't talk about Fernandinho. He is such a midfielder with class and gets his job done. He is my favourite City player

A slip-up! Ilkay Gundogan with a sloppy pass, gives the ball away in midfield.

Ryan Fraser works himself free down the left wing and has time to pick out a man in the box but Fernandinho is there to nod the danger clear. Still, there are positive signs for Bournemouth.

  14. This won't happen againpublished at 15:20 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2018

Manchester City lead, just as they have done on every other occasion they have played Bournemouth at home.

They won five of the previous six. The one occasion they didn't was in May 1989 when, incredibly, they drew 3-3 after conceding a last-minute Luther Blissett penalty.

City had led 3-0 that day.

If they lead 3-0 today, I don't think they will draw.

Leroy Sane has been easily getting in behind Simon Francis in the opening 10 minutes and he makes a simple run, Oleksandr Zinchenko puts the ball into him, Asmir Begovic gets behind it but it drops into the area and the only person on the front foot was Bernardo Silva with an easy pass into the back of the net.

  16. CHANCE!published at 17 mins

    Man City 1-0 Bournemouth

Bernardo Silva close to his second in as many minutes as Leroy Sane picks him out on the edge of the box, the Portuguese's volley is into the ground and behind, blocked for a corner that Bournemouth clear.

  17. goal

GOAL - Man City 1-0 Bournemouthpublished at 16 mins

    Bernardo Silva

Oleksandr Zinchenko with a lovely dinked ball over the top, Leroy Sane latches on, Asmir Begovic smothers with a block but there is Bernardo Silva on hand to sweep into an exposed net.

It's the kind of goal that looks so easy when every stage is executed to perfection - a perfection no other team in this league look capable of matching right now.

That is Bernardo Silva's sixth goal of the season - and his first for six games. It was coming.

Sergio Aguero is wrapped up in the stands, dipping into a steaming mate (the drink, external).

Raheem Sterling battles to win possession from Tyrone Mings - there is plenty of bite about this Man City side.

Callum Wilson chases down a bouncing long ball that spills away into Ederson's hands.

  19. CLOSE!published at 12 mins

    Man City 0-0 Bournemouth

Gabriel Jesus is inches away from latching on to Oleksandr Zinchenko's dipping cross. The Brazilian, free of the Bournemouth back line in the box, just can't reach it with his outstretched toe and the ball zips beyond the exposed Cherries goal and out for a goal kick.

Big applause for Leroy Sane as he chases back to track a ball he gave away. Pep Guardiola will appreciate it too. Raheem Sterling wriggles loose on the right wing but his cross is over-hit.

City, of course, are dominating possession - 75% in these early stages.
