Tottenham retained third place in the Premier League with a comfortable victory over a flat Leicester at the King Power Stadium.

With Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen both starting on the bench, Spurs initially struggled to break down the hosts until Son Heung-min's superb strike just before the break.

The South Korea forward cut in from the right and hit the top corner with a curling left-footed shot from outside the area. The impressive Dele Alli then headed in Son's weighted cross after a flowing counter-attack to put the game beyond Leicester.

Spurs had dropped to fifth after wins for Chelsea and Arsenal earlier on Saturday, but now move back above their London rivals and are five points behind Manchester City in second, with leaders Liverpool a point further in front.

Leicester stay ninth despite an end to their six-match unbeaten run in the league.

Leicester City manager Claude Puel speaking to BT Sport:

"I haven’t seen the replay [of Tottenham's second goal] but it was difficult after the second goal. Then we had to manage the game against a team who were deep so there was no space [in behind]."

"I feel so happy. I would like to congratulate the players. It's three very important points for us.We were very solid and I'm so pleased. I think we showed great character. We play at Wembley and away from home and the team always try the same to win the games."

On introducing Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen:

"[We did that] to help the team after 2-0. It was important, some players were tired and to rotate helps the squad. They were available to play and it’s good for them to get a training session in second half before we have a must win game against Barcelona and that is our objective of course."

On the gap to the leaders:

"There's a lot of games to play still. The distance is six points, if you compare to last season it is a healthier gap, it’s still a long way to the finish of the season though. The most important thing is to be there and be there in the last five, six or seven games to fight. At the moment we are being solid and trying to show we deserve to be there."

Dan: Professional performance all in all. Players executed the game plan well. Still lack that composure when protecting leads but we're getting there. Clean sheet is a massive thing away from home but that was a weak Leicester display.

Dele Alli: "I was trying to hold my run (for his goal). I was trying to anticipate and stay onside. I’m not sure if I was (onside) or wasn’t. Sometimes those decisions go for you, sometimes they go against you.

"I’ve had a few good seasons at Tottenham but as at team we know we can keep improving and that’s the same as individuals. We’re always trying to go to the next level."

Son Heung-min: "I’ve scored some nice goals but I think this was special because I practice it all the time. I like to get in those positions.

"Of course scoring goals is always something to be proud of. I try to score all the time but it is an honour to play here and score in this shirt."

Tottenham started the day third, and will end the day third after jumping back over Arsenal and Chelsea.

Leicester have struggled for goals, you can see why today. They've worked hard but struggled to find any way through the Spurs defence.

A brilliant game for Spurs and if they can continue like this it'll certainly be a positive season.

A surprisingly routine win for Tottenham against a lacklustre Leicester side. Goals from Son Heung-min and Dele Alli give Spurs a completely deserved victory.

Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen, Son and Dele all avoid any injuries so Barcelona awaits on Tuesday in a must-win Champions League game for Mauricio Pochettino's side.
